Honda Reborn Power Steering issue

Hello guys,
I am going through a very serious phase nowadays with my honda civic 2007. Last week when i was on my way to islamabad, its steering suddenly became extremely hard. I got a mechanic in islamabad and it was diagnosed as a power pump issue. I got the power pump changed and deive back around 200 kms. It was ok all around but suddenly i faced another issue. When the car is cold, the power steering works well. But as the time passes, you can say after the drive of about 35-40 minutes, suddenly steering gets stiff again. When i put my car on P, and accelerate it, the steering works fine again. But after stopping the accelration, it starts getting harder again.

Some body has told me to get the air removed from the system. And some body said its a power steering rack issue. Please guide me if anybody has faced the same issue or if some one can guide me about this problem.

which oil r u using? is it foaming in the bottle? honda ps needs honda oem oil otherwise they cause problems.

The mechanic has put ZIC ATF. he said it is feasible. i dont know what's going around

Use OEM power steering oil and get it checked at a dealership.

Lol throw that stuff out ASAP. It is going to destroy your entire power steering system. ATF and PSF are both hydraulic fluids and some manufacturers allow using atf in power steering systems. However, that is not the case with Hondas, especially your 8th gen civic. The Honda PSF is clear-golden in color and has different hydraulic properties as compared to the red-colored ATF. Your mechanic was either not aware of this or he did not care of the consequences.

Either way, flush that atf out and pour clear Honda psf in it. You can find the correct flushing procedure in the service repair manual.

I think he has a bad pump too.

It really amazes me that idiots with tools have no issues pouring ATF into a honda power steering and thinking its A OK.

Honda have been writing to use their own PSF since the 70s (50 years now), its become generational knowledge now and to top it all - its super cheap too as Honda didnt patent it.

Every civic that comes to me with p/s issue turns out be using no name brand red oils, some even had hard jelly formed in the pump blocking flow of oil.
Here mechanics hav yet to learn and accept that they cant pour generic oils in honda trans and p/s system.

That jelly like substance (on rag) was formed on the fine mesh inside ps reservior bottle and almost completely blocking the outlet from reservior. Probably formed due to using cheapo oils for ages.
The orange "Fanta" is the oil extracted from the system.
The owner was complaining of whinning noise from pump.

is the alignment completely out of whack on this car? btw - that fanta looks like its watered down, did you try to heat it up in a small spoon or pan to see if its sizzling?

The alignment was probably ok. Dont exactly remember. Didnt get chance to heat it up, just saved a pic of the amazing jelly and oil.
The owner is happy now, says steering is soft and no more weird sounds.

After your reply, i think first thing i should do is to put honda PSF in. Then look for the other things. Am i right?

I will surely come there. As i belong to muzaffarabad azad kashmir, i can only come after the lock down is over. Can i drain off the ATF and put honda PSF?

You know how to fully flush it?

U cant "drain" as like other systems.
Method of flushing
Remove the return pipe from the reservior and put it in a bottle/jug, start the car and add new psf. The old fluid would be collecting in the jug, make sure not to run the pump dry, if fluid stops coming out, stop the car immediately. Also you would need to put a stopper on the reservior inlet port to a prevent new psf from spilling out.
The process is completed when new fluid comes out of the return pipe.
Before starting the process, one may need to clean the reservior bottle if its dirty from inside

You dont need to start it either, just turn wheels, oil will be pumped out while new oil is siphoned in

8th gen has steering issue. Very common. Only solution is to replace it either buy kabuli one from bilal gunj or spend 100k+ from honda. I have 11 model but it is used as 3rd car so didn’t replace it yet.

buying made in Afghanistan part wont work if the idiot working on it pours ATF in it and the cars alignment is screwed 7 ways to sunday.

i was planning to buy Reborn and was planning to sell my corolla but this Steering issue concersn me alot
