Connect a scanner to your car and inspect live data while the car is driven. Look at fuel trims, O2 sensor performance etc. These parameters will tell you something about the engine performance. In the old days when cars had carburetors, one could smell the exhaust and tell if the car was running rich etc.
Oil grade has not much to do with your car's 12km/l vs 18km/l of other cars.
