i believe it is notmal
this is due to engine braking, in this rpm do get high
during downhill brakes should be used less and best is to rely on engine braking which you did, else brakes gets hot and in worst case might give up.
also remember if God forbid you start to smell that burning smell from brakes after extensive usage, stop and let them cool down on there own, don't ever throw water on them
don't think it is bad for transmission, its the engine which is braking
i have daihatsu move with cvt, if i lock it in B(lower gear) i see my rpm high too on downhill
