Better you stay at Doonga Gali, hotels are not very expensive there + you will not face bad rush and will get good parking space. From here you can go to Ayubia via a beautiful track of about 2 hrs walk on a good, safe and secure track. At day time you can go to Nathiagali (5 km) and come back in the evening.
If you wanna do hiking then Mukshpuri is the best.
There is a wild life museum also (good for kids).
