How do you measure mileage?

I never really understood how to measure the mileage for my City and Civic.

The way I calculate it always gave me a lower amount than what the car meter was showing.

Any help on this? Is there an app or some software that'll make it easier to calculate?

Simple .....fill.up your tank with 5 or 10 liter petrol and use GPS based tracking application to calculate the distance you went...when petrol ends you can simply use maths to calculate km /l... I don't know why you are getting this issue...I did the above on my city and checked with the odometer and the reading on city odometer was quite accurate....

The only reliable method

1. Fill the tank to BRIM
2. Drive it for let's say 100 Kms
3. Fill it back to BRIM

Divide Km by Liters. Tadaaa

choose station of your choice
1. Top up tank from the dispenser you can remember, note down the no of liters when dispenser stop to fill.
2. reset odometer and drive
3. when reserve light pop goto same station same dispenser, note down the odometer.
4. top up again as point 1.
5. repeat twice

check the no of liters required to cover no of kms, and do the maths.

Kilometers driven for liters poured in.

410 kms driven. New petrol 30 liters.

410/30 = 13.66 km/L

In such a scenario the meter would probably show 14 km/L

This is the only and simplest method. For more accuracy do it 2 times on auto stop for fuel filling.

Why the same despenser

I fill up my petrol and record the total mileage amount present at that time.
Then I fill up my petrol again when it is nearly empty and record the new mileage amount.
I minus new mileage amount with the old one and divide by the number of litres my car tank carries.
