AoA Guys,
There are some very informative threads on the types, viscosity and even grades of motorcycle engine oils. However, I couldn't find any direct thread/information on said topic.
In my opinion, mineral oil should be changed/drained more frequently than the (semi) synthetic oil.
PW members have used Liqui Moly / Mobil 1 over 2k Kilometers without any observable problems. Generally speaking, almost all oil companies and their users says that mineral oil should be changed between 1K to 2K KMs. For synthetic oil, as per people and oil companies, oil change should be between 3K to 5K kilometers.
(Ref: Google "motorcycle synthetic oil change interval" and review up to 25 search results for details)
I'm now using Suzuki Kixx G1 (10W40) and it already ran 1700 kilometers without any problems. Surely, I'll change my bike's oil tomorrow noon for sure. The question is, should I? Or is it just some illiterate speculation / rumor spread out throughout Pakistan?
5 months ago, I refilled oil (Suzuki Kixx G1 -10W40) and changed it after 700 KMs, my next oil change was on 1100 KMs (same oil), then this time (tomorrow) - I'll be draining this oil on 1700 KMs. The strange thing is, oil color and apparent thickness of oil when changing at 700, 1100 and 1700 KMs was almost same.
I own Suzuki GS150 - 2013 so I can see oil now from side of motorcycle.
One possible argument that I'm expecting is that the bikes we have here in Pakistan are of old tech so rather frequent oil change intervals (at about 1K) is obvious/recommended. That might be true but perhaps not so true for GS150 and YBR.
I'm not expert on this topic so doing such safe experiments in a hope to debunk this myth (if it really is). My next experiment-phase on this topic will begin tomorrow with Total 10W40 oil so I'll be able to post results in about 3 to 5 months and then I'll do the same with Liqui Moly (third experiment phase).
Throughout such experiments, my bike always starts on half-self, never stalled, I even tried to start my bike at 3 AM yesterday (and bike was all wet due to cold mist) and it started on half self without needing choke and now a days, weather is pretty cold in Islamabad.
This makes me wonder if we're just wasting engine oil by keeping shorter oil drain intervals.
I would like to add that this might not be true for any 70cc bikes (regardless of the brand).
Some might suggest that I should NOT change oil brand that frequently and as per my R&D, as long as the grade is same, oil manufacturer doesn't matter (only if it is genuine and designed for motorcycle - I might be wrong but my experience suggests otherwise as that includes 3 others cars that my family owns).
Thoughts?
