How to check engine before buying a car

As the title suggests I want to know from all the experts how to check the engine of the car while buying it would be helpful for me and others like me who want to buy a car. I have heard that start the engine and take the oil lid out and rev the engine if there is slightest of smoke coming out than the car has weak engine is that true apart from that is there anyother way to check to engine

Well you should start the car and when it has reached optimal temperature, press the accelerator to check if any white smoke comes out of the exhaust which should confirm whether rings are okay or not. Other than that, check idle noise.

By the way, I personally feel that you can not be 100% sure if the engine is okay without driving the car. It is highly likely that the owner won't give you a test drive without a substantial token payment. In such a case you can ask the owner to drive the car himself while you will sit in the passenger seat. You can then direct him to accelerate and brake etc which should give a fair idea about the engine position

Its better to get the car checked at a workshop before finalizing the deal,
but if seller is not flexible then above stated points by @mani1 are a few steps to check engine condition.
Apart from smoke you can also check for any sludge under oil cap, visible parts and at exhuast tip plus notice any irregular sound while reving a little at idle.
Also ask owner about service history, that would help. You'll be lucky if a car with service history is available in PK

message the car number and owner name to some BAABBA type person, he will tell you k kitna kaam hy gaari me, kitni price sahi hy aur konsa time acha hy gaari buy karne ka!!

If the engine block from top and sides is a bit greasy and muddy but if you wipe it with a cloth the material underneath shines plus the cloth is also not damp is it a sign of something bad or something normal if engine is not cleaned for 6 months. I think engine response time should also be checked like the time it takes the car to reach 4-5k rpms. If the response time is slow what it could indicate

do an inspection before starting the car.
remove the oil cap and look at the enigne for any gunk or gaskit failure.
start te car and remove te radiator cap when its not hot and look for bubbles, gaskit failure.
slide under the car for any visible leaks.

look for smoke from exhaust.
check for car noise on ideling and while you are driving.
if cng check the car on cng wheter its giving problem, also check for heatup issues.

if you wanna be meticulous take the car to an aquainted mechanic.

if really really wanna be more precise then do a compression test (you have to buy the kit from abroad:'()

If the inside has sludge like as in pic below then it could mean; a delayed oil change, over-heat, bad quality oil used etc etc... means engine health is not good, so avoid such car
