nops bro i never do that, i usually clean it when throttle body is completely dismantled, petrol is also a good cleaner but curb cleaner do a charm.

I am asking about the complete intake manifold not just throttle.

yes you can clean complete intake manifold with curb cleaner but you need to dismantle it from the engine other wise you will not get desired result.

why you want to clean intake manifold???
its a long and difficult task.you cant do it by your self,,
you cant even open its bolts unless you have proper tools..

and dont confuse between t-body and intake manifold-
intake manifold cant be cleaned with carb cleaner

to fully clean the manifold - you need to completely disassemble it, put the throttle body somewhere dry and safe. remove the fuel injector rail etc, and any accessories.

now get a large tub of hot water and lemon max with a round stiff brush and clean away.

if its removed from the engine then you can wash it even with dish wasing liquid and hot water.why waste money on costly carb cleaners??

well i agree with you but to be honest manifold doesn't need cleaning it all unless something very bad happen like roll over car or diesel used instead of petrol in car.

Dirty sensors can cause ecu to malfunction and hence rich fuel mixture. clean your cars throttle body and all the other sensors with petrol or NASA curb, throttle body cleaner.

removal of it on 4AFE is pretty easy as the manifold plenum is bolted with socket head bolts, remove it and remove the fuel rail, place aside, now get your slim ratchet set and get to work removing the nuts and bolts on the bracing.

extract from engine, undo throttle body and then its hot water, soap and brush time - you will become quite dirty after its cleaned.

The 4AFE keeps its intake pretty clean - the problematic engines are the Hyundai Santro intake manifold - it literally gets plugged with junk and needs a good cleaning.

The other major pain the behind engine for manifold gunking is the toyota 1KD-FTV and all mercedes benz CDI engines, they load the manifold with "koyla" and require a good cleaning with some proper nasties.

what are the symptoms of a dirty manifold and do only efi cars require manifold cleaning? my car had a bad pcv for a few thousand kilometers so it might be dirty

this was taken when i cleaned the throttle body. Should i go for cleaning it?

by the way, where does this sludge come from???
