How to clean the engine bay?

Professional automotive detailing services here in the US do not use ANY chemical products to clean engine bays. They use steam. It is superhot and compressed. It is not practical to buy the equipment for personal use though, but the results are spectacular. The engine and everything else in the bay looks like new.

I don’t know if they have something similar to Yellow Pages in Pakistan; if they do, look up professional detailers and check if they have steam cleaning equipment available. You will not have to worry about engine electronics and paint with this type of cleaning.

here we dont use no air after wash to dry, engine should be little warm for best results....not hot hot..... we spray engine cleaner solvent on engine....wash with luke warm high pressure water......and we on our marry way.......no air drying drama. nothing to worry about sensor or any thinking.........only thing you must make sure dont get water on your self.....than you dont look cool.......than we go and cruise and look for hot babes......girls like clean cars...

acoording to my experience petrol with pressurized air is the best thing to clean ur engine bay. As petrol leaves no residue, it is not hamful to the electronics and sensor stuff. However,, washing the engine bay with water is really out of question as water really damges the electronic parts n im talking abt efi cars.

there is no way a suzuki has "sensible sensors" as a Merc. so please dip it in a tank no issues. i clean the engine bay with carb cleaner(gets off carbon and dirt) then spray enough wd40...... since 3 years now no issues as yet in Vitz, cultus or Merc heheheh

It means there is no recommended and well accepted method to wash engine bay of efi cars.
Some people say that they wash it with pressurized water and they have no problems but some people report problems. Same is the case with washing with petrol, diesel and even a fellow has reported a problem after washing with air stream.
Situation is complex!

i have my experience and like to share with u all ,

i own a Gli 2007 + one margalla 94 model ,

on every car wash after abt 1 month to 1.5 month, i wash engine bay myself not from service station, reason, they dont cover things which i doubt, i try to cover power steering flud, + injectors top + cng kit ...... in margalla the distributor + cng kit , thats it , nothing else, i use simple water, create pressure by narrowing the outlet and use surf mixed water with cloth and clean it .

after wiping out surf with water . dont start it , give it abt 1-2 hrs standing + clean the critical areas with dry cloth , start on petrol , idle for abt 5-8 mins, then switch off for another 1 hr approx, if dont wana use , otherwise same as spectra bahi mentioned, run on petrol for some time, and then convert to cng .........

with this practice on my margalla from past 9 years, i dont have a single issue, few times got prob with distributor when it got some humidity inside, but when its covered, no issue at all .

dont use any kinda petrol + pressured water + diesel or any other chemical thingy, just use simple water with ur own hands, most usefull .

There are several cheap cleaners available on service stations like " Star Shine" and "Easy Clean" etc they work very well. The only trick is to spray them in the begining close the bonnet and when the car is serviced simply rinse off.

Forgot one thing. Avoid spraying too much on plastic and rubber parts.

well im sajid i 've alot of exp. with car boosting and im also an authorised engineer and associating with pak suzuki motor company limited form last six years let me tell u something about ur Efi Machines they always ask about to not to wash ur engines with water basically it is only for that vehicles which contain the Hi-Tension ignition Coils and in cultus VXRi there Is not Hi-Tension Ign. coil U can use water but not with Pressure after wash with norma hand pump water u can Boost the engine with Pressurized air and as above some body Mentioned that not to use it on cng use it on petrol for a while and the main thing why it is restricted to wash is that wire tempering not install such type of thing which allows tempring the hrnesses ok any other information u want u can ask me

Oh yeah, i tried only the air pressure thingy.. havnt used any patrol or spray yet...

air with pressure does a lot of cleaning though but it doesnt give the shine (obviously), but that satisfies what i want to achieve at the moment... (i.e dirt out of the bay)

However i will use the spray idea becoz thats wat i want to do without hurting any electrical component... will post pictures once i do..
