How to improve automatic coure fuel consumption

Dear all!
First time posting on pakwheels. Bought a 2005 cuore recently with almost 1lac 70th Km's driven. It is my first car. It's automatic and It is giving 4-5 Kim's per ltr. I checked its mileage by filling full tank at kms 173228 then drive in a heavy traffic (bumper to bumper) and refill full tank with 8.4 litters of petrol at 173269 kms. Almost 40 km in 8.4 litters

Please comments about how I get its correct mileage and how to improve it.

Thanks I will do it. Will converting car to cng helps to improve its mileage ?
