How to inspect the car shocks

please tell me that how to inspect the car shocks that they are worn out(both front and rear)and what are the symptoms of bad shocks.and what are the hazards of worn shocks

As i've heard that you displace the car vertically it kinda doesn't stop it just keeps bouncing and bouncing, better wait for the experts though

if the shocks are not installed in a car then its really hard to tell.
but if its fitted then u can drive over a few bump n simply feel the cars ride. if its too bumpy or too hard then they are no good. shouldn't be uncomfortable in any way.

It absorb shocks.actually they dampen the vertical motion induced by driving ur car along a rough surface.if ur car only had spring,it would boat and wallow along the road until u got physically sick and had to get out.Or at least until it fell apart.

Shock absorbers perform two functions.firstly,they absorb any larger than average bumps in the road so that the shock is'nt transmitted to the car chassis.Secondly, they keep the suspension at as full a travel as possible for the given road conditions. Shock absorber keep ur wheels planted on the road.Without them, ur car would be a travelling deathtrap.Technically they are velocity sensitive hydraulic damping devices.In other words,the faster they move,the more resistance there is to that movement.They work in conjunction with the springs.The spring allows movement of the wheel to allow the energy in road shock to be transformed into kinetic energy of the un sprung road mass,whereupon it is dissipated by shock absorber.

To inspect the shock.Bounce the car from each cornor for a while then keep away ur hands off the car and see the movment of the car,it should be stoped after having one or two bounces.It means shocks r good,if car bounces more than two times with hands off the car,It means shocks r bed and needs replacement.

Well its really really easy. All u have to do is take a live wire and touch it to the part inside the wheels. If y don't feel the current then this means the shocks r fine and they r present but if u feel the current then no shocks in the car or they r not functioning properly:p:p

well explained.
however if its a small car its easy to push it down to check the shock absorbers, but if its a slightly bigger car it wont be that easy.

^ To check the suspension of heavy or bigger cars, you will have to check it while driving. If the car bounces on bumps 3 or more times then shocks are gone definitely. You will also feel the thud even on small bumps.

Test the worn shock absorber by pushing up and down on the bumper at each cornor of the car several time, Increasing the length of stroke with each push, release the bumper at the bottom of a down stroke.If up & dwon movement stop quickly,the shock absorber servicing the cornor probably is in adequate shape.However,if the car bounces two or more times,the shock absorber should be removed from the car for further examination.
