How to lock Suzuki Mehran hatch / back

So this might be a newbiew question!

I was able to unlocked the hatch/back of the car by entering the key, pushing IN the keyhole button and rotating it.
However now I can't seem to lock it. I've entered the key, pressed the keyhole button, tried to rotate but that doesnt seem to lock it. taking out the key and just pressing the keyhole button unlocked the back hatch/door. So I'm missing something basic.

This is so counter intuitive for a lock. help please.

Don't push the lock button and simply turn the key in opposite direction. After that verify by pressing lock button again and it should be locked now.
