How to Remove aftermarket Chrome Door-Handle Covers

I installed aftermarket Chrome Door Handle Covers about 3years back on my car with the help of 3M tape. Now those covers are worn out and become pale & their chrome color faded. Kindly share how to remove them at home. I have watched youtube videos, they used heat gun, i don't have heat gun. Share some trick and tips to remove them easily. Thanks.

Well what you could do is get some dental floss , and hold it from both ends and try to saw it in between the chrome and the handle , that's how I removed my cars oem badges , the heat is to make the adhesive easier to remove you can just just use a hair dryer if you really want to try or even park the car in sun for 10-15 mins and it should do the trick.

I honestly just used dental floss and doubled it so it doesn't break and slow started sawing it between the badge and the trunk and it worked wonderfully.

2 ways

One is to use heat gun which hardly costs 3k and is versatile

Else remove chrome handles with force and remove the adhesive using ipa

Get a hair dryer, use it on low heat (1) and go over the handle. Make sure you don't hold it in one spot for too long. Get some dental floss and slowly cut across the tape by going up/down. Cut a long piece so you can wrap it around your fingers to get a good grip

Once the cover is off, just got some ipa and gently wipe away the tape residue

Never a good idea to remove it by force. These flimsy chrome parts crack when you bend them. Doing so will probably result in scratching the paint surface under with those jagged edges. You'll end up with more to worry about than when you started

I think the chrome has to be thrown away anyway

While the double tape has to be removed which will never scratch surface

I intend to keep the handles white (without chrome) for a while. May be later I'll again add chrome cover to it.

You forcefully pull on that chrome, you're gonna break it if its become brittle and that tape under it has hardened. That sharp edge will push into the paint while you lift up on the other end, scratching it. Its not about throwing the chrome strip away, it's about removing it the right way

I'm sure the topic of removing emblems and chrome parts has been covered hundreds of times on the Detailing forums here. You are an active member on there so suggesting someone to remove it by force isn't great advice

Yeah you are right

But the thread method is good for embelem not for heavy chrome balke in easy words it will not at all be effective.

Best is to use heat gun

It'll work. Did it on neumerous cars. A heat gun is ofcourse better but a simple hair dryer will work too especially on a hot summer day

Removing chrome handles or residual paint issues will be the least of his problems in that scenario

Putting in some WD40 can help in removing the plastic covers in my opinion.
