I believe KIA and Hyundai will not compete each other in sedan car segment at this time so that both companies can flourish in the market as a company and get some sales traction ,keep in mind that parent company is same and in new market, they would like both companies to succeed.
So, Elantra will not see a Forte as a competitor. Unofficially number of times KIA reps mentioned that a sedan is not yet in their pipeline. It is the same way Hyundai is not bringing anything to compete Picanto or other is the hatchback category.
Yes Tucson vs Sportage is there but that segment is so different and above a 5 million price point and both Tucson and Sportage can have their due share. Under 4 million price point , Hyundai/KIA want a single produce in shape of Elantra. Once the market matures for their product line, maybe then there would be a chance for Forte in sedan segment.
Additionally , we should know that in July 2021 the auto policy will expire , same duties will become applicable as on the rest of the companies and the major subsidy will be over for KIA and Hyubdai . There will be still some available on imports of parts but only on those parts which KIA and Hyundai will develop locally in future and I think that subsidy is at reduced rate comparing what they have currently.
So, product line they have at this time will continue. I dont expect any new product from KIA or Hyundai anytime soon. If they wanted to develop any other product , they should have done it now when the major subsidy on duties is available and till 2021. Developing anything after expiration of auto policy would mean an expensive product and it will also take them longer to develop.
Again it's my personal opinion.
