It came in with a higher price than its competition, which are pakistan's 2 favorite sedans. The looks are not great, the features are not anything spectacular, quality was reasonable at launch, but has been decreased now and is about the same as civic and corolla. Only thing it has going for it is the higher powered 2.0 engine, and most would still prefer toyota or honda's 1.8s as they are way more reliable engines.
Nishat does not understand why sportage and tuscon were successful even at their absurd prices, it definitely was not because of their korean brand names. Imagine if honda or toyota had a crossover in that price range here, both sportage and tuscon would have been huge failures here then. The only reason for their success was because of high demand for local crossovers, and people who were willing to pay a bit more than civic/corolla, but not a lot more.
I would suggest waiting a bit. Elantra is a good car and I think it will be highly discounted by the end of this year, making it a better value car than civic/corolla or the city aspire. Even if they do not discount it, the used values will completely tank as now even the ready delivery cars are selling below invoice and the car's price is going to go down by 1-2 lakhs soon due to the reduction in duties.
