I am seeing quite a trend in this Elantra and in the Honda Civic-X thread that some "senior" pakwheelers are bitching about Elentra especially Civic-X owners. And you can see they are misguiding the people.
I've yet to see a single person who ACTUALLY bought Elantra and is not happy with their decision. Most people were Grande/Civic users and they consider it an upgrade.
Let's see some points they talk about without taking sides.
Pricing:
I agree that the price should have been lower than 3.9M for Elentrab ut what about the same prices of Grande and Civic in the same categories?
How does it make sense for Hyundai to give a lower price for a car having more features than its two competitors, a more powerful engine, more comfort, more superior quality, and an extended warranty? Every anti-Elantra dude is OK with the pricing of Grande or Civic and but they want lower prices for Elantra.
Quality:
I own myself a 2017 Civic and until now, I have changed 6 batteries, 2 fuel pumps, recently a complete gearbox. Yet Civic has more "quality & reliability" than Elantra. Grande had its share of issues but again every "fanboy" is OK with it. If you are not biased and you compared all three cars in real, you'll feel Elantra has a bit more quality built. Yes, there is room for improvement, and Hyundai should work on it.
Resale:
This is actually a valid point. In Pakistan, including myself most people are not rich, we raise money for years to get a dream car so buying a car close to 4M is a big decision. So thinking about resale value is quality natural. Spare parts shouldn't be an issue as it share quite a lot with Tucson. The fear that if sales don't pick up in a year, Hyundai might discontinue it, is real. So there's that.
The people who want to upgrade sedan from Civic/Grande in 4M the Elantra is definitely a good choice. Hyundai don't allow test drives but if you can get your hands on it's drive, you'll feel the difference, more pick, more power, more comfort and suspension between grande/civic.
