when limp mode occur the car would not go above 5 km/h, afterwards we would just call mechanics who towed the car back. probs they did smth with the OBD reader and did throttle body service

@zee5han brother when did i say i was spending 160-170 on a lc200, i hv option for W213 e class or sonata n line, lc200 can be another option, now an e class 2017 would cost about 250+. i can probably get a good LC200 2013-2014 in that range

Idk what exactly you are looking for but seems like 2018 Toyota Crown is good option for you.

your knowledge is truly limited and seems like either you never owned a Sonata or never experienced a limp mode. You are just commenting speculations. In the limp mode, the car does not go above 40km/h, not 5km/h.

but i sold the car 6 months ago. the car indeed does not go above 5 kmph, atleast in my case the car did not go above 5

Just to give some information on the limp mode issues, and things I have experienced from my last service:

I usually get my service done from Hyundai Airport in Lahore. They're the closest and most convenient for me from either my home or office. Usually throttle body cleaning was done every second oil change (which makes sense as to avoid any potential issues within the next 10k km), however they changed their service routine to cleaning it every oil change. Furthermore, they instructed me to always use high octane, which the car definitely does not require.

To all fellow owners, specifically the 2.5L, what are your thoughts on this? I've never had the limp mode occur but a sporadic CEL light around 18-20k km. Do you think throttle body cleaning every 5000km makes sense? It sounds like a money grabbing technique to me.

Aren't the GDI engines the ones which have unusually high failure rete in US due to excessive oil consumption?

I'm assuming you are talking about the new Sonata with the turbos? The MPI ones found in the 2L and 2.5L have not had any major complaints. The turbo ones are also trouble free from reports in the US. The previous generation Sonata suffered the most with their 2.4L, which was excessively using oil if there were issues from the factory.

Grand previous generation (YF) were even worse plagued with engine bearing failure so bad it caused lawsuits making them replace engines under warranty. Makes me grind my teeth every time my dad starts at 187k miles almost 300k kilometers.

You do not need anything. I got throttle service done only once in 40k kms. Using regular fuel since the start. I got hi-octane only once that too with 30-70 mix.
I get the fuel only from my selected pumps in Lahore and Islamabad.
Never faced this limp mode issue even once on my 2.5.

Thank you for your input. I would say every 15k-20k km for the throttle body would make more sense given that this was the time frame I was close to getting affected by it. Also I would have kept getting regular fuel regardless
