Actually the individual I know and who booked it few weeks ago, was told by sales rep at pre launch event that initial pricing will be kept attractive but Hyundai is planning to bump the price later this year. Again maybe the Hyundai rep wanted to make a sale to my contact person and wanted to create a fear of increase in price. Well with Nishat , anything is possible.

It is better looking, does not require hi octane, naturally aspirated korean engines are more trustable than chinese turbo engine, korean vs chinese quality and reliability overall, roomier interior, etc. It has got a lot going for it and generally seems better than mg hs. Plus there are still a few people left like me who vastly prefer a sedan over a crossover.

Not my point i was only contradicting the false information that tucson/sportage/HS are smaller cars than a civic and cramped

well.. the prices are better than what pakwheel blog wanted us to blv. Maybe zor ka jhatka dheeray say.
but an upper mid spec sonata should be priced at the MGHS price.
I do blv k its a better automobile than HS or any of the suicide UVs, but I still think that the pricing should have started around where elantra was closed and go up till the 6.5 mil for the max version.

But selling less for more profit is prefered in pkdm than selling more at lower mrgins.

All these CUVs are based on compact or C segment platforms. They are almost equal in size to civic or corolla but much smaller than a midsize car i.e. sonata.

Man, if they would have priced it properly around the 5.5 mil starting. It would have been a no brainer choice.

You commented before that, that you do not see any reason for this car to be a better buy than tuscon or hs. How it particularly has no redeeming features, so I have posted the redeeming features.

The pricing while not too good, is a decent strategic move by nishat as it is in a unique space of being the only locally manufactured midsize sedan and also being latest gen. Lower price would murder their cash cow tuscon, higher price will bring it to the sorento price bracket and almost fortuner level price which will be suicide. Don't see them raising prices now, but then it is nishat, their idiocy must not be underestimated. I hope they learnt something from the elantra failure at least.

Just went to the showroom today. What a huge and beautiful car with amazing built quality.
The current price seems very value to money considering the new shape Civic will definitely cross the 5 million mark in price. The fact I love about this car is that it won't be everyone's cup of tea and will not be seen everywhere like Sportage and HS. Probably will maintain its exclusivity.

Base Elantra (2.0) and base Sonata (2.5 but diesel) have a price difference of $4,300 (around 700,000), whereas in Pakistan, price difference figure comes at 2,400,000.

Just came from the showroom. The sonata is just a gorgeous car and was making Elantra look absolutely hideous in comparison. But unfortunately the quality surprised me. Felt way worse than an imported accord I saw in a Honda showroom. In terms of quality, felt only a bit better than the Elantra. Really not worth it over the Elantra for 2.4 million more rupees. Some of the hard plastics in sonata literally felt like something you'd see in a mehran. Didn't feel much bigger inside than the Elantra either. Seems like it should've been max 55 lakhs for the base model.

Also funny to see Elantra now coming with general tires and Daewoo battery. Overall quality of Elantra also seems to have went down compared to earlier cars. Seems like nishat is localising hard and not caring about maintaining the quality. Elantra is now selling for 25k below invoice and it seemed like the salesman was willing to negotiate down a bit more. I think a few months from now, Elantra will get heavily discounted and ready delivery, will probably make it a great value for money car compared to civic and corolla.

Another point to note is that the 2.5 smartstream engine has loads of reliability issues abroad. In foreign markets the 2.0 sonata comes with the new smartstream 2.0 engine, but the local one is using the same g4na as the Elantra which has a reasonable reliability record, but the 2.5 is using the same smartstream as foreign markets. According to the salesmen, 2.5 is selling a lot more than the 2.0 which is a bit surprising as the extra features are barely noticeable and our locals love smaller engines a lot.

When you are spending so much for a big car , you might as well choose a big engine as well.
