I am confused please help me . The problem is I am going to buy civic 1998 exi model variant but the engine head cover says Honda hyper 16 valve . The owner himself is unsure of engine was changed or not. But I think that's d15b non vtec engine. Number in files is Pk5v9701672. Please tell me if it's stock civic engine or is Honda city engine ? And is good ? The owner says car fuel average is very good. And it's efi also I think

Exi never came with vtec one. Hypervalve was the branding in city 2000-2002. Just check the engine number. It should be red painted and check embossed number. However changed engine is always better than overhauled one

Ok thanks. Yeah that's what I think changed engine is better because normal life expectancy for these engines are 250k km and the car I am going to buy has travelled 260k km so that's not bad. You are getting a ready made thing

And also when I was checking engine. I said to him start the car and one thing I forgot was to first check the Mobil oil before starting but that's the thing I forgot. But then I said press the paddle and I saw some smoke coming out of the exhaust but the owner said currently I am driving on petrol so that's why it's throwing smoke. So kindly tell me what should I do. Was he right or wrong there

Get a compression test, if it has done 260 k probably engine is very weak.

The irony is that the owner himself does not know whether the engine was changed or not. Because in file its the same number engine from start to till date. Is it changed or not or if it's changed how can we know because if it was changed he should have registered it then but what if he hasn't registered it?. How can we know

there are plenty of people avoiding engine number endorsement over registration book to hoodwink at time of sale. Thats a crime. ask your mechanic to find out actual engine number over the block, write it and cross verify it with regn book.

without compression test a silent engine
mechanic announcing gone finished fail only swap, such mechanic class shall be avoided.
