This one is interesting as you see a local loading kamani/leaf spring with 17+ leafs and a modified shock for extra length.... works like a horse (with wings)...try racing one of them things and you'll invarioably bite your rally lips!

Anyways, we decided to use the spare time to wash off the dirt and the sand from the water crossing which we could hear creaking on the brake drums all the way to Gilgit....

Following DesertDevil's Tiger towards Hunza... Across the river on a noisy shaky bridge....

DesertDevil pointed out that the older bridge was the original route where vehicles have to negotiate a sharp turn inside a low tunnel at the end of the bridge....little did we know that nn and myself would lose our way on our return the same night and end up coming in on that tunnel bridge.

The number of K1s we saw on the way was absolutely astounding, but the number of them parked in the Naran Bazar alone was just out of this world. Unfortunately no pics of those but there were at least 100+ parked in that one street. Here we catch three coming down from Hunza:

A classic K1 parked at a petrol station....probably the best I've ever seen!

DesertDevil also pointed out parts of the ancient silk road that are still visible from the KKH. This ancient road meant for mule and camels probably goes back thousands of years, traditionally used by silk traders coming from China....

The breath-taking view of Rakaposhi peak from KKH....perhaps one of the best views of a high peak from any major highway. Also known as Dumani ("Mother of Mist"), it is ranked 27th highest in the world and 12th highest in Pakistan. Picture does not do justice to the scene...

Went with SK to see Attabad village and the newly created lake....

The Red arrow indicates the mountain part that broke off triggering massive land slide and formation of a lake. The Blue is left over Attabad bala village and the Yellow is left over Attabad Payin village.

While were staring at Attabad and the slide area we witnessed yet more sliding........

This probably deserves separate attention but to cut it short DesertDevil led us straight to the IDP camp at Karimabad where after a brief chat with the IDPs we headed out to the Attabad disaster site.

Lead IDP rep from Attabad Bala who accompanied us to the disaster site and explaining the state of affairs of the Attabad, Paeen and Sarat village IDPs and also his personal tragedy of the loss of his two children.
