Importing more than 3 year old cars? How?

Hi Guys,
I have seen so many vehicles on Pakwheels which are older than 3 years and still they are imported in the country as a reconditioned car. For Example, A vehicle manufactured in 1996 is imported in 2006 from Japan. How come its possible? As far as I know the custom rules, we cannot import more than 3 year old car..can somebody shed the the light on this issue????

Back then i.e 2006 you could import them,then rules were changed to 5 years and now 3 years.

Actually I tried once on online auction, but they replied me that in Pakistan you cannot import this vehicle as its more than 3 year old..you have a good knowledge, are u in this business? just asking

well thats a very old thing now....1 day it will be 1 year..who knows...gov can do any thing

Well one thing I cannot understand that why they discourage the import of those vehicles which are not being manufactured in Pakistan like Toyota Surf, Land Cruiser etc. I understand Govt intention is to save the local industry..I don't know...Pakistan is among the poorest country and most expensive as well with respect to Cars and fuel..

REASONS :
1. Corruption
2. Lack of Awareness
3. No rights of Public and Check on Balancing and Monitoring Prices of any car!
4. Many investors of the Companies aka Dealerships have deep pockets or links!
5. Pakistan Zindabad! (DEMOCRACY POWER!!!!!)

We get expensive and more taxed stuff cause we are being 'made' aka Looted!!!!

You know what..I work in Oman...which is included in A catagory with respect to per capita income and Pakistan is included in third world country I think in D catagory..but still here the price of new vehicle is less than half from Pakistan with just 4% import duty and fuel is around 10 rupees PKR per liter..
I don't know what to do man...where Pakistan is going..we really need a sincere leadership like Dr. Mahateer Mohammad..who can work for thier people by forgetting thier self..I hope for the good times..yet to come

Yes u guyz are Right ...Pak govt Supports the Local Car manufacturing companis .. they want to build up their sales within pakistan ...Due to this pak govt changed the duty policy .. which is going in the Pocket of paki Govt ..
