Importing Toyota Corolla from Afghanistan

I am plannnig to bring back Pakistan a vehcile from Afghanistan(i am working here). I know the import is possible under the 3 schemes and now the condition of 5 years vehicle applies for every scheme. Now i have following questions and would like memebers help in this regard.

1. Whether import from Afghanistan allowed? I heard that there is a general ban on imports from Afghanistan.

2. If i go through proper channel and would pay all the duties, do you think the process will be smooth or still i have to pay kickbacks?

3. Which scheme of duty payment will be suitable i.e. payment on engine capacity or list price? i m planning to bring toyota corolla 2003 or 2004 model.

4. After calculating all the duties and purchase cost, the car will cost me around Rs 750,000-800,000. do you think it will be a good buy. What should be the maximum amount i should pay for importing this vehicle.

Well i will be bringing it through proper channel with filing all the documents mentioned in the broshure.
Apart from these, i dont think the car seller will give me any other documents but the sale receipt and then i can register the car on my name.

so the documents will consist of;

1. Purchase receipt
2. Registeration documents of Afghan Govt. in my name

I dont think there is any other document i need. What do you think.

Just out of curiosity, why are you buying one from Afghanistan, is it cheaper ther?

I am working here and the cars are very cheap here.
You can find a Japan assembled corolla 2003 for about 7-8 thousand dollar because there is no custom duties, taxes here in AFG.

In papers it’s possible but in reality it’s gona cost U same price as cars available Pakistan. The difference will be that U will be brining left hand drive car legally registered on your name if U R in Kabul. As of I know in Kabul they R not registering any more RHD.

I M also in AFG for the last 4 years and I also bought Toyota Surf here last year but when I checked with Pak Embassy in Kabul they advised better not to import from here.

Well you can find RHD vehicles in Kabul and definatly in Herat. I personally have seen many RHD corolla's on the road. And its not necessary that you shall register them in Kabul, it can be done any where.
As per my calculation, the cost should be following for a 1599CC car.

Purchase price: say $7,000
Full duty on engine capacity: $10,000
Rebate on duty for deprciation: say 30% $3,000

So total cost will be $14,000 (7+10-3), equal to Rs 850,000, which i think for a Japan assemble fully powered coralla is not a bad price. However, if still i have to pay any kickbacks to custom authorities, then the story is different.

Voyager- Can you please tell me why Pak Embassy discouraged you from importing vehicle from here ?

@Sarmadm dont bring cars from afghanistan to pakistan as most of cars there are stolen from pakistan , besides this the price that would cost u from bringing car in pakistan is 850 k and imported corolla is also available here starting from 820 k so that wouldnt be of much difference to u and this would also save ur time from going again and again to custom authorities

Getting a car from other Cities of AFG is not problem, U can get very cheap cars here but U have to be very careful and not to go for some thing which can cause problem for U. Mostly RHD cars are stolen and getting them registered in other than KBL is not a problem.

I was being advised by the Embassy bcos it was not worthy importing from here.

why dont u buy one from peshawar(hyataabad) and pay its duty here

@Alithegreat are you sure that imported coroalla can be found btw 8-9lakhs? if yes which model.
Although i didn't servayed the market but from the adds posting here in PKwheels, the small toyota vitz is costing about 6 lakhs.

Stolen car is not a big problem. I will check the country of assembly and if the car is assembled anywhere else and not in Pakistan, it means it is not stolen from Pakistan atleast.

Buying corolla from swat and paying duty is also an option. Lets see. I still have about 3-4 months.

brother i would advise u not to bring any car from afghanistan coz there can be a lot of problems...plus the price which u have mentioned is also not that attractive..my cousin has imported a 2003 model corolla 1.5L from japan n it cost him round about 9 lac including all taxes, clearance etc...so y bother buying from afghanistan??plus the cars there r very roughly used so u wont get a good car at that price either...for the peace of mind i would suggest u to import it directly from japan.

Well after getting all the suggestion, i am making up my mind not to import from Afghanista. Not because of the fear that the vehicles are stolen or in bad condition, but because of the hassle which might be made at the customs.

I am pretty much sure about the conditions because i will be buying the car from the show room where these are imported directly from Japan. i have seen a few and those are in real good conditions.

But still if i get a good car here, i will buy it. Further in my next trip to Pakistan, i will inquire from custom authorities about it also.

Its preety simple. Dont involve yourself in govt. formalities. Just get a "raahdari" for 3 years or 5 and bring your ride with you on the Afghanistan registration plate/number. Need more info.. contact me.
