Improving Fuel Economy and Choosing Air Filter for Honda City 2019 1.3 Prosmatec

Hi everyone, please help me for choosing the best Engine Air Filter and Improve Fuel Economy for my Honda City 19 A/T:

I have a Honda City 2019 1.3 Prosmatec (7000km done) and i am looking for the best Engine Air Filter.

Currently, i have installed genuine Air Filter from Honda (replaced after 5000kms at first oil change) but i am not satisfied with it. My problem is that i am getting 8.5 km/l fuel average, also car's pick is almost nothing as i have driven my friend's City same variant just an year old but his car is very good in pick and giving him 12.5 to 13 fuel average with AC in Lahore city drive.

I've researched on internet a lot and found the one thing that i am doing wrong is not using the best Air filter. Being said that, I have done checking all the following

1. Tire pressure checked Front: 40, Rear: 43 (car delivered from Honda with this pressure and its almost same till now)
2. Using Honda's Genuine Engine Oil (changed on 5000Kms service from Honda)
3. Using Honda's Genuine Air Filter (changed on 5000Kms service from Honda)
4. Not having any extra weight in car.
5. In-city drive with Ac in Lahore
6. Tried every fuel pump: Petrol, High Octane, and Mix proportions
7. Reset meter on every tank fill to check current average
8. Exhaust pump Cleaning
9. Throttle Body Cleaning
10. Other things that could involve in fuel efficiency
11. Plus, I am a very light foot driver

All of the above things are checked but nothing has helped very much - just 0.5 km/l difference. Now I feel that Honda’s Genuine Air Filter is not the best for Performance and Fuel Average. I didn’t want to go for parts other than OEM that’s why I was keeping Honda's Genuine Air Filter but now I think that I must go for some other brand that provides quality equivalent to OEM but provides good performance and fuel at the same time.

First of all, your Tyre pressure is too high. It should be around 30.
Secondly, you're already getting okayish average. Many users report around 11-12KM/L with AC in city. Have you stated this value by looking at the speedometer or have you manually calculated it?
Thirdly, an air filter won't really increase your fuel Efficiency.

That is absurdly high. Reduce the pressure to what is recommended in the owners manual or the plate attached to your door frame. (it's for safety and optimal ride - not fuel economy.

As for the mileage; you mentioned your friend getting better returns then you but I am pretty sure he is also using OEM air filter. Then why are you so overly concerned about the air filter? It won't do anything for you

Why are you obsessed with economy. Hey its a brand new car enjoy your ride for the time its brand new. I own a 2016 1.3 MT my numbers were the same in first 10000 km or so. The economy improved with time. Honda air filter is the best i suggest you stick to that. Do not go for any throttle body servicing etc in your brand new car. Just give it some time and numbers will improve

Reduce tyre pressure to 32 psi in front and 30 in rear wheels for factory fitted tyre size. This is what is written on side pillar of city

Relax! Your car's fuel economy will increase slowly with mileage. And I would suggest to stick with OEM parts since your car is absolutely new. Plus if you are so obsessed with fuel economy you should have bought the manual transmission City. For ease of driving you have to sacrifice something. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Bro this is more than enough for your brand new car. As learnt here from some members; usually PT, and 1.3L PT has bad fuel economy as compared to their MT counterparts. If you are much concerned with fuel efficiency, then you must have gone for 1.3L or 1.5L MT Honda City, or 1.5L PT Honda City, instead of 1.3L PT Honda City. Secondly, fuel efficiency of Honda City is bad in the beginning, and it gets better with time.

Do not worry much about fuel efficiency. IN SHA ALLAH, it will get better with time.

Your car will also come in this condition after some time. Just wait and relax.

Too much. Shift to OEM recommended TP ASAP. I think, its around 30-32 psi for Honda City, but please confirm. Exact and recommended TP will be mentioned on a sticker / placard, attached with driver's side door pillar.

Mind sharing the grade? Is it 0w-20 or 5w-30? (In both cases, its OK. Still, 0w-20 would be better)

I would suggest regular gasoline from company operated & maintained Shell, and then Total fuel stations. PSO should be your 3rd and last option.

No need for any unnecessary "Chaaeer Chaar".

Bro, You are not right. As said by many other members too, you are already using the best air filter. Just always maintain it in neat & clean condition, free from any dust, debris, etc.

If you open the driver side door of your car, you’ll see a sticket, telling you the recommended tyre pressure.
Your tyre pressure should be 32 in front and 30 in rear.
Try driving your car at high rpm. I used to shift gear very early (I have an MT) and i was getting 400km/tank. But now i do not change my gear below 3000 rpm and I’m getting 500km/tank with ac in lahore city.
I use genuine honda oil and air filter.

well 3k rpm isnt high. below 2500 torque is very poor, so probably he was lugging the engine thus consuming more fuel.

No it isn’t. Trip was zero at full tank. Now it’s 322 driven and still you can see how much patrol is still there.

True. I used to drive car in 5th gear even at 80kmph. It’s my first manual car so I don’t know to drive it. That’s the reason probably.

I have been user of the different cars since last 16 years, since last one year i am the user of honda city 2011 model. I have experienced the genuine and after market non oiled (Oil free) Dry HASCOAL brand air filter where other local air filters were also available. When One goes on air filter shops they said that there is only difference of applied oil in genuine filter and Dry filter is also equal to the OEM performance and said that there is only difference of usage life of filter as wet genuine filter life is 10,000 Km and others are for 5,000 Km .

But on the other hand practical filtration efficiency (PFE) parameter needed as per honda city I-vtech is 5 to 6 micron where normally on this parameter some dust particle passes through filtering element therefore oil is applied in the element so the fuel mixture ratio becomes optimal and car gives a best fuel efficiency and good pick up performance.

The filter paper used by non OEM companies are based on 2 to 3 micron parameter as they don't apply oil so need less air vent passage to control the dust particles. In this way less air pressure passed through filtering process and fuel mixture ratio become rich and over all efficiency become disturbed.

Further if One is the cost conscious regarding the filter cost then please consider that if price is Rs.2,000 and it goes for 10,000 Km then only 0.20 paisa per kilometre cost is being charged. Therefore OEM filter is the ultimate need of the vehicle.
