Compare this to Toyota Auris in UK (hatchback version of corolla). It retails for around 16000 GBP which is around 12 lakh Indian rupees.

Its futile trying to compare US prices to indian prices due to the tax structure here. Comparison with European prices is a much better proposition. The Santro starts at 2.6lac and maxxes out at 4.13lac for the top of the line automatic. What film stars do they pay to price the car at such alow price, i wonder?. And, i never compared prices here. I just profiled the Indian market Corolla as i do all cars released in the Indian market on this site. Leave me alone.

Official procelist of the Indian Altis are out, ex-showroom Bangalore. That's where the car is made.

I attended the formal launch of the Altis at one of the Toyota dealerships here in Madras earlier today. Here are some pics. It is raining cats and dogs outside and i find myself in front of the idiot box. So, here goes....

For the interested, a couple of Altis ads this side of the border. Toyota(India) has actually undercut the Civic price here in India. Let us see if this strategy really works!.

Rumor has it that Toyota may offer a 'sports' version to compete with Honda(India)'s Civic Sports model.

Honda(India) has upped the ante by introducing a Civic 'Sports' model to counter Toyota(India)'s price war. Here are a couple of pics of the car. Since it is a factory job, the mods do not negate the warranty.

frankly speaking it was a bit disappointing to see the same 1ZZFE engine and the old 4 speed auto in new corolla..it would be safe to assume that corolla would retain these specs for another 5-6 years until the shape is revised again..surely by that time these current specs would become obsolute.

As regards the exterior..while new corolla is redesigned I did not find it strikingly different than the previous shape..in fact it has close resembles to the previous model.

Overall I think at a starting price of 17 lacs it would be very difficult for new altis to compete against civic..xli however may capture good market in 1.3 litre market segment due to its lower price..
biggest blow comes as new corolla is still carrying over the 15 year old and long-time obsolute 2C engine (71hp) in the diesel version and that too at an outrageous price of Rs.18 lacs..i think thats ridiculous and is tantamount to fooling the poor public.

That honda civic resembles the mugen type r jdm civic looks very nice especially in white.

Adding to this thread to showcase the evolution of the latest Corolla this side of the border. Many Auto manufacturers in India display their products at shopping malls across India. Not Toyota. Till now. Toyota(India) is doing a blitzkreig of the new Corolla at major shopping malls across the country. I tried taking pics of the Corolla at one of the malls here in Madras. The security guy stopped me and showed me the notice "No photography allowed". Well, i was going through my fav Indian auto website and another member had posted pics. Here they are:
