Now, about the discussion here. Chevy Avalanche is a production vehicle. It is not converted in to an SUV by installing an after market bed cover, it has a built in cover. Cadillac Escalade EXT is another one. We are talking about a TOYOTA HILUX and similar pickup trucks here.

You are asking me to be rational, see you previous response. You have started comparing apples to oranges.

Its much easier to convert a Regular vehicle into any configuration i.e. from Pick Up to an SUV, which I have seen, and you have not.. Its not my fault if you haven't seen it.

You can convert a mehran to a limousine, I have seen it, and if you have not, you will say no, it does not exist, same as you are saying here with Hilux.

Infact there was a picture of it on Pakwheels. So, by the same logic, if you have not seen a Pick Up converted to an SUV and I have seen it, and thats all I said in my previous post, then what is the point you are trying to make. Does not make any sense at all. If you have not seen it, than it does not mean than there is no one else that has seen it.

Now you are saying that I show you where I have seen it, it was on Detroit Down River area, and if you can fly from Phoenix, to the Dix or Rick's (forgot the real name, it was years back) Custom Conversion at the crossing on Allen Road, you may ask the owner of that shop if he can convert the Pick Up Truck to an SUV. Infact you can call any of your local area Custom Body Shops, and ask them if it is possible. They will give you a dose of reality, and they may also tell you that Yes, it is possible and also you NUTS!!!... why don't you just buy an SUV instead.. It may run you the same cost or probably even cheaper in case of slightly used SUV..

I appologize to the others here. I think everyone else have got the point, except this person, so I am only trying to help him to understand that in this world and with today's technology, it is entirely possible to convert an ordinary Pick Up Truck to an SUV using fiberglass or any other material. Now the fiber-glass does not have to be Ready Made, the one's this person is confused with. You can also order CUSTOM MADE fiberglass, body parts, that can conform to any style and body type. Infact you can make a whole body shell with just Fiberglass and fasten it with the Body Cage of the Vehicle.

Production made Pontiac Fiero was almost all Fiberglass made in 1980s. So, it is possible to shape any design with fiberglass, including converting a Pick Up truck like Toyota Hilux to an SUV.

But, I wish, if this can only get thru Cranium cavity of Mr. riz.....

well i am sure this is the pakistani model coz i have seen the gulf and japanese model n its totally different. Anyways not bad for the start. Its good and locally manufactured although the interior and exteriors are totally different. Was just curious if someone could tell me wht parts in these hilux and corollas are local and wht r imported. i mean to say like interior, engine, transmission etc.

That is exactly what is going to happen to the Hiluxes in Pak, mark my words.

I tried to give a view of an alternative possibility for these Pick Up Trucks, in place of the old Tent Convass or vinyl rag top, they use on top of crudely made metal frames.

I think most of the body parts are made in Pak for this Hilux, but not sure of the percentage. The Interior seems to be imported, as Toyota is hesitant in providing any valuable technology, including Drive train Tech. to the Paks. But they are not afraid to give the engine/trans tech. to the Indians. Double standards as usual... But probably has more to do with local assemblers own laziness as well. They could have acquired some basic technology to atleast start assembling the Toyota Engines in Pak, but they have not, despite sitting on large sum of liquid capital. It will hurt them in the long run, as Globalism expands and Joint Pak-China Made cars will hit and upset the market, sooner or later. Just like in the Motorbike industry. Yeah, all the nay sayers, people used to make fun of China Made Motorbikes, but the same people are buying them like there is no tomorrow. Yeah, the Jap car will still be around, hopefully, but more competition will really be good, as it will rationalize their price to a more sensible level.

Hopefully sooner rather than later..

I work for IMC and Cant reveal future plans of IMC.

But India got permission by TMC( TOYOTA MOTOR COORPORATION , JAPAN ) for the manufacturering of VIOS.

IMC is being managed by HABIB Group, TMC only provide technical support to us .

Managmental Control and Strategic decision's are taken locally by ALI HABIB and Directors.

As far as localization is consider , soon we will install our Press Shop within existing Plant. and will manufacture Large sheet metal parts here in Pakistan , after 17 years of it existance.

Yes, a Bed Cover can be used to convert a Pick Up truck to an SUV. There is NO RULE against it, Bubba, now is there.. You show me a Rule which states that YOU MUST NOT and SHALL NOT use a Fiber Glass Bed Cover to Convert a Pick Up Truck to an SUV. Then and only then you will be Right...

You can use any parts, Fiberglass Bed Covers, Tin Sheets, Heck even Leather Made Convertible cover.

The Pick Up Truck, you know the Thing with 4 wheels and a Cargo Carrying Bed in the back... can be converted to an SUV, here you cover up that little Bed and voila.

Whatever you use to cover up the bed of the Pick Up Truck, and CAN carry passengers, ..it Doesn't say in the Definition Above, how you carry the passengers, as long as you can Carry Passengers, does not matter, make 'em sit, stand, pack 'em up like sardines, doesn't matter....You have a Sport Utility Vehicle. There is no set of rules as to What is considered a "TRUE" SUV, other than what I have posted above....

Just to let you know, I have nothing personal against you.

We are all here on PW to relax and enjoy. My initial post about Hilux was just to chill out. Just like my other one with the Canvass Canopy, which many people here enjoyed. Nothing serious. I did not mean to inject some Debate over it.

We are here to relax and chill out, make friends. Be easy, don't judge others, and take Keera out of everything they post. I don't do that, or done that to your replies atleast. If I wanted to, I could pickout any post and make anything out of it, but I don't. Its not fair to the poster and frankly it generates ill feelings towards the instigator of such acts. I avoid it, and I kindly request the same.

I have no issues with you or anyone. Everyone here just chills.

We have become a family here. All here are like brothers, and couple of sisters too. We mourn the un-eventful days togethers and share the sorrows as well as celebrate the Birthdays and other joyous occasions here.

I appologize from my end, if there was some mis-understanding you had and caused any emotional distress.

My initial comment was solely based on a statement that was incomplete. That’s all.

I have NEVER contended the fact that a pickup truck can not be converted into an SUV. My ONLY point has been that the conversion does not consist of JUST putting a bed cover on. There is a lot more that needs to be done to complete the conversion. I am not trying to start another argument here. This has been my contention all along. You have confirmed this in your own postings.

And please, you shouldn’t stoop down to name calling. It is very unbecoming and adds nothing to the discussion.

Sorry to inform both of you, but no, Desi is not correct as pointed out by Pakwheel Brothers earlier. Thank you.

The Innova is not same as Hilux. The basic design for them is completely different. HILUX is a Pure Japanese Designed Pick Up Truck.

Whereas Innova is based on TMC's Shared Global Platform that is developed JOINTLY by several 3rd world countries, not just India alone as you are trying to give the impression. Its also made in Indonesia as well. So Hilux is Pure Japanese design, far superior in Design and quality than Innova.

And I read somewhere that Shared Global Plateform vehicle, there are several of them, will also have some components made in PAKISTAN soon, God Willing. In the Shared Global Platform, the vehicle is designed in a JOINT collaboration of several countries, outside of Japan, like being done now, and that vehicle is made part by part in several countries and will be assembled finally in One Country. Innova or some other vehicle is one of those vehicles. Its being assembled in India, with several of its parts being sourced from around the Asia-Pacific countries. Basically to teach the 3rd world countries how to Design and manufacture a Quality Product, by the Japanese Gurus. Even Americans are the Students of Japanese TQM, Total Quality Management, when it comes to Automobiles.

About Hilux, you are wrong there as well.

Hilux, this 2x4 version is MADE IN PAKISTAN. The 4x4 version with D4D engine is the upgraded version that will also be available, and thats the one thats imported, not the 2x4 version thats being discussed here.

I noticed a trend in your posts along with many of your countrymen. All of you always highlight India's achievements, however small or whatever the magnitude maybe, 1,000 times more than the ground reality, and try to Put Down, anything that is being done in Pakistan. Why are you people like that?

KARACHI: Indus Motor Company has expanded its capacity with the addition of a pick-up production line at its plant. A ceremony in that regard was held at the company where Toyota Motor Corporation Managing Officer K Takarada was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Takarada said Pakistan was an important market for TMC and appreciated the efforts of the entire Indus team. He also visited the plant to see the manufacturing process and was given a detailed presentation on IMC’s performance and future projects. Takarada emphasised that Toyota was committed to providing Pakistani customers with the best products and after-sales service throughout the country.

Why light a match?.I'm happy that this truck is being introduced in Pak and my earlier responses will attest to the same.So what if i'm incorrect about the origin of the Hilux?.I can be misinformed, can't i?.The Hilux actually looks very similar to the Tacoma to me!.As for the Innova, it is a 'zabardust' product, whither made in India, Indonesia or Thailand or wherever!!.Dat's all dere is to it.Acc. to me!..
