No, that won't make the situation any better as if it happens, then they will be just like the MNAs - illiterate and ill-mannered. Senate is supposed to be selected by experienced, and well informed senators having extensive subject knowledge so that they can provide technical guidance to the parliamentarians when they decide to pass a legislation.
Election is hardly a solution to anything in a country with low literacy levels and basic knowledge about anything. If it would have been a solution, then why not any company or a bank apply this approach to select its CEO? Imagine a situation where the CEO won't be selected by board after careful analysis of education/experience but elected on the basis of vote given by each staff. Then education, technical knowledge about the company, its future strategy, vision etc won't matter. The only thing that matter would be the kind of perks and underhand deals offered by the candidates to the staff if he/she wins and the caste/language of the staff to choose one of their own.
Similarly imagine this happening in judiciary also where Chief justice would be elected among all the lawyers in the country rather than selected on the basis of merit and experience. The lawyer with the best campaign, affiliation with the right political party, having the right caste/sect and the most impressive promises would likely to be the CJ, and the whole country would soon become a banana republic.
