Installing two KESC meters on two different floors

Hello people,

We wan't to rent out the first floor portion of our house and wan't to install a second meter(a separate connection with independent billing) KESC is no longer allowing installation of multiple meters in a single premises.

Do you guys think there is anyway around it ? As per a news article in BR, this practice is kind of illegal.

I know one way is to install a secondary meter on the same connection and divide the bill according to the number of units consumed but it is kind of unfair because of the stupid non-marginal slab system KESC has in place to rob people.

Help would be much appreciated.

DHA KESC office is located in phase 2 extension,
I am also interested in installing 2 meters at my residence in DHA, would appreciate if some one knows the procedure and costs involved.

now days one cannot install a second meter.

they can easily resolve the issue of multiple meters in a single premises by making the unit rates uniform.

Except that the bill will always be calculated on the highest slab. Two families living on entitely different floors shud b billed seperately.

This is karachi. Buying property is v hard and alot of ppl live on rent

yes billing then will be at highest slab thats a drawback.

i wonder how much more load we as a pakistani can bear and not do anything but accept what is forced upon us

Time will tell, have been paying gas bills in excess of 2500/- since the last couple of months and we don't even use a gas generator or heater.

Anyways, just talked to a couple of people at KESC, turns out you cannot install a second meter unless the house is subleased and transferred into second owner's name.

I guess paying as per the highest slab is the only solution.

i my self has 3 electric meters installed 10 years back.

for SSGC (GAS) do not exceed 299 units for the month otherwise gas bill will shoot up to rs6000 for 300 units and around rs 2500 for 299 units. that is the difference 1 unit can make due to the unfair billing system

DO you get combined billed of 3 meters or 3 separate bills? what I mean to ask is that do you get the slab benefit from multiple meters or the bill is combined and rate applied on sum of unit of 3 meters?

In Pakistan we cant do any thing through proper channel all we need is a jogarh or source hoto jayay ga

You have to sub lease your portion then you can get seperate meter. Now its a rule that one lease house should provide a single meter. Sub lease your portion on any family member can solve your provlem.

check for leakage.

turn off all gas points in house.
turn off main valve from outside.
wait for 5mins.
now turn on the valve.
if the meter moves slightly, there is a leakage. it should stay completely still.

Install a meter on the main wiring that go on that floor.

Install it inside your portion or somewhere where it cannot be tampered.

What kind of meter and from where is your headache. Pay someone to get you one. Kick KESC's as*. Forget them.

i don't think so.
if u can lease a portion they may allow, then after installation un-lease the portion

Lol..i'll ask my dad to lease it to me for a while

I checked with a law firm, the cost to create sublease papers for my 2nd portion is more or less 100,000 :S :@

Anyways I just took a walk around my neighborhood, every 2nd or 3rd house has two or three meters, some even have 4 meters... I don't know how did they get these.
