Well we see lot of things about energy saving in modern era computing. A decade ago these were never considered. But as we progress ahead, we have lot of new challenges. Power saving is one of them. At different organizational level we have different computing needs. In early day normal multimedia pc s were common in offices, hospitals and banks. These were power hungry machines. And they used to be in white color too.
As IT mature with the passage of time, We have seen black computing stuff, it was all made from old recycled plastic. We have seen thin clients with less computing power, with customized OS and software which provide no pleasure to user. They are designed to work only. Plus they are powered by small adapters instead of 200W or 250W power supplies.
This move really put employee on organizational work, instead of playing games, surfing internet and time. Plus less computer power was require for clerical work. Similarly you cannot watch SKY, BBC2,3 and ITV programs online if you are out of UK. But you can still view their website ( a good part ).
A lot of people keep busy online store websites for browsing stuff, while they are not genuine buyer or they are not in a position to buy stuff because they are in different country where store does not send stuff. So lot of Foreign stores are considering this option to ban IPs where they don't operate. It solved many problems, less load on server, more bandwidth available for potential buyers, conserving the computing resources and it also resulted in energy saving. These stores are so big, famous that everybody talk about them.
Our biggest site is Jang.com.pk, where 70,000 - 100,000 clicks are made daily. It is a new website so it is open to whole world like other websites. These clicks are just a fraction if we compare world's popular massive websites.
E-Commerce still has big scope in Pakistan. We don't have much good websites, Our websites striving for income. Main Problem with them they are selling stuff at higher prices than local markets. They are total failure.
