Go to the exchange and ask for Abu Bakr and ask him where GPON is available and where it will be available next.

The laying of fiber cables in the previous years was somewhat of a preparation for GPON. They're upgrading the infrastructure from copper only to fiber back haul with copper as the last mile for DSL connections and in some areas they're providing VDSL and GPON as well.

Soon, most of the cabinets will be GPON ready and this issue of DSL not being able to support higher speeds will be gone.

That's like asking half of the western world why they have gigabit connections?

I got it because I'm impatient and I use a lot of internet and being stuck in the world of 'Chaar MB theek hai' doesn't cut it anymore.

It's because of everyone's mentality of being okay with slow connections that the people who want higher speed connections have to suffer because the infrastructure in their area can only handle 2 Mbps lines.

Ditto. 4Mbps is nothing these days TBH. There's a mobile device with everyone at home. Four or five people at minimum, when everyone's playing Youtube, things go pretty much out esp. if one's gaming.

Sad how people are still okay with having 4Mbps connections and then are surprised when it gets slow under load.

Ptcl deploying fiber in bahria town. They have started the work soon ph 4 will also get fiber.

I am in ph 4 with ptcl 8mb connection. Works fine for me.

Ptcl works fine in phase 4 for me. Download speeds 800-900 kbps at 8 mb connection. After fiber the consistency of the connection will improve

Not only consistency but room for upgrades in the future.

The theoretical limit on ADSL2+ is 24 Mbps down and 1.2 Mbps up and those are usually only possible if the line is in perfect condition.

With GPON, you have the option of opting for a 12 Mbps connection or a 100 Mbps connection with no equipment upgrades required. Also the slightly lower latency is always appreciated.

You can also inquire from Bahria Town's PTCL Exchange @ 051-5731700; this is the one in Bahria Town (Phase 1-6) near Civic Center/STOP n SHOP, last I checked, they deal with PTCL customers in Phase 7 too. Phase 7 I think has Fiber network laid out by PTCL, its not Fiber to Home; rather your connection will start from the Fiber Cabinet on a copper line. Dunno if they have GPON there now.

Which router do they give with the GPON connections? Haha, I don't want my expensive and super cool Linksys router to go out of fashion.

Depends on the equipment used in the exchange.

Suppose the exchange has Huwaei switches and routers, you'll have a Huwaei ONT for GPON.

In my case, they have Alcatel Lucent equipment so I have an Alcatel Lucent ONT. Pretty basic, no special features. However, I've hooked it up to an ASUS RT-AC66U and disabled the WiFi on the ONT and I couldn't be happier.

Does anyone know if Nayatel is available yet in phase 4? I've been using Zong 4g wingle since moving here a couple months ago as I was told ptcl service was poor, but disappointed with Zong speeds as well.
Any guidance or suggestions on which provider/package is best would be appreciated

they are digging phase 5 for fiber and offering gpon
i am sure gpon must be available in phase 4

fat chance nayatel gets a chance here as ptcl has now invested alot in this area
