My Dawlance Inverter works till 145 Volts perfectly, thoug at 145 it takes around 9amps bt still works.

and what about when its functioning normally? How many amps does it take when there is not voltage issue ?

Well i have a 5 years old Galanz AC 1.5 ton(non-inverter). Recently changed the room so called an AC technician which dismantled the outdoor unit and installed it to the other room. Previously i did not know much about the Amp meter but was following this thread closely so decided to buy an Amp meter to see how many Amps it was consuming. The first day at install it went up to 9 Amp and then settled at 8. Next day during the day it was consuming on average 11 amp. I was worried about this consumption for obvious reasons. What happened the day before yesterday is that the amps went from 13 to 15 to 17 and then in no time reached to 30 amps. I get worried and immediately switched off the AC. Restarted it about an hour later and again after about an hour amps went from 13 to 16-17 and then to 30. This time i decided to wait so after reaching 30 amps the compressor stopped working and the amps came plunging back to 0. This again happened twice yesterday. The compressor takes about 20-30 min. to come alive again. I called the electrician yesterday as i thought he may not have done the wiring right so he said he will visit this evening. I'll ask him to check the voltage but from the posts above it seems that this may be due to low voltage. Can a 1.5 ton AC consume 30 watts if functioning properly? I did not go for the inverter unit for the same reason as yours: the out door was to be placed in direct sunlight at the roof.

30 ampere means 30 x 230 eq 7000 watts. Impossible to achieve by ac. Thats hell of power. Circuit breaker wd trip way before ir reachs that point. Or else ur ac wd fry .

Amp meter is faulty. Full stop.

Get some other amp meter and check.

OK. Thanks for your post. What if the voltage went really low ? As i recall my technician saying that as the volts go down, the amps go up. So for example what if the voltage went down to 150. In that case this would mean 30*150= 4500 watts. Is that manageable by an AC. My circuit breaker did trip once when the amps went to 30 (one out of four times). I don't think the amp meter is faulty as when the AC is switched on again after a lapse of half an hour or so, the meter shows normal readings for an hour or so of amps fluctuating between 10 and 14 amps. Its when it goes north of this upper figure, that things turn a bit weird. Is it possible the outer got damaged while reinstalling and hence its behaving like that ?

And one more thing. The red light of the circuit breaker keeps flickering even when the AC is functioning normally. So it's not a steady fixed intensity red light but keeps flickering from bright to dim even when the amps are at 9 or 10 e.g.

Starting frm 6~6.5 amps and goes down to 2.5~3amps with in 2~3 hours at 28 degrees temp set and also voltage above 220

My observatn is that low voltage causes stoppage of compressor due to inbuilt safety checks to protect ac .

New ac especially invertr have advanced tech so they are being marketed as able to work in low voltage.

If your ac took so many amperes to keep meeting its power requirements its compressor wd be running not stopped so its not taking that current.

First thing ... check the ampere of ur circuit breaker. It wd be 10 or 15 . Amps wd not exceed it . Circuit breakr trips wn exceed and you are not able to measure anymore. Rest assured 30 is false alert.

Second get anothr amp meter.

If ac on 10 amp circuit breaker shift it to 15 amp.

Low voltage can also be measured kn voltage meter.

How much is installation cost now days and what to look for to make sure the installer has done everything right. Also how much is average service cost now days that includes ripping apart the indoor unit and cleaning it thoroughly.

I always prefer Haier over orient and kenwood as well anuly cheap option available in the market because haier using Toshiba and panasonic compressors while other using chinese cheap brands like GMc

So guys finally issue resolved and traces the problem ....
Actually the new unit came with over charged gas and due to this pressure the compressor gets heat up and trip .... it was also consuming more anperes around 12 ....
The technician reduced the gas pressure from 85 to 70 and then automatically the ampere came down from 12 to 8 and AC starts working normally ...
So finally i am happy with my new kenwood 1.5 ton AC

-Gree
-Samsung
-Panasonic

Should be economical, in the sense of money being well spent. Agr 100k wala bhi 60k walay jaisa he kaam karay tu uper walay 40k ka faeda nahe. Those of you using inverter acs of various brands please comment.

Well getting the ac installed. It starts off with 1 ampere and they go till 7.8 ampere and if u put the turbo mode on the amps go till 12amps. Mind you thr voltage is 190v.so will buy an amp meter tomorrow and get the full results for myself

I have a question the fan speed button doesn't do mucj if u put it on three speed the fan work well but slows down for a sec in after every six second. In slow mode the fan speed is slow but after every five seconds a burst of high speed comes and vice versa in other fan speed. But when the ac is on turbo mode then there is no variation in fan speed. Is my unit defective if yes will call gree on monday
