After much research into solar power, I was ready to make the jump to solar, but due to financial constraints I had to put it off until next season.

Anyway coming to your question, You can run anything on Solar, as long as you have the required number of watts coming from your panels and your inverter is of enough wattage. But yes, the first step would be to shift everything on UPS to solar. Since you have already done the wiring, you don't need to do any additional wiring. The only wiring required is the one coming from solar panels to MPPT charge controller and Inverter. After doing this, all you need is to plug everything that was on UPS into the inverter and you're done. The batteries connect directly to the inverter or MPPT charge controller depending on the type of setup you have.

Regarding preventing excess solar power from going back to grid. If you are using a Hybrid inverter such as Infini, this is quite easy to configure in the settings. If you are not using a hybrid inverter and you have wired the system properly, solar energy will not flow back to the grid. Because only the loads will be connected to solar and you will switch manually to solar in the day, switch back to wapda in the evening. For the 4KW APC (I am assuming it is 4KW and not 4KVA). You are talking about 4000 Watt load. You need to size the panels bigger than you load. You need at least 5000W combined from panels. If you have the budget it is better to invest in a hybrid inverter such as Infini. It also has a built in MPPT charge controller so you don't need to buy it separately. Infini will handle everything automatically, when there is sufficient power on solar, it will run everything on solar, when solar output drops, it will use wapda and solar together to handle the load, when there is no solar or wapda, it will switch to batteries. There is a 5KW Infini on the manufacturer website but it is not available as yet. So you will need a couple of 3KW Infini hybrid inverters. The load will be divided between the two inverters.

And by the way this is a bad time to go solar. The govt just imposed some duties on panels up to 32.5%. I think they will roll it back, but until then, it is better to wait and see how the situation develops.

ToxicDevil i have installed a Infi Plus model at a cousin's place and the whole things + installation was for 6.6 Lacs...

The best voltronic offgrid available is MKS Plus and that too is designed for 3kw load hence you can safely connect 2600 watt load on it.... the other model MKS is simple wastage of money IMHO and is best avoided.

None of the hybrid inverters or the off grid inverters available from voltronic can be synced with each other hence in case you need to add power then then you will have to switch to an all together new inverter system.

I am currently in the process of finding a bigger hybrid for my home preferably in the range of 5kw if not bigger. There are very few available in the market so the search is still on.

Can you indicate what cost is incurred on a infini plus solar based system if we want to run a 1.5 tons ac solely on solar for let's say 12 hours daily. What is the estimated life of the system?? Thanks..

If you are interested then i can send you a quote regarding infini. The system will cost you around 5.5 which will run 1.5 ton inverter AC with 3 hours back up. We use american batteries and canadian panels.

You don't really need Infini plus for your load. A simple 3KW Infini will do.

1800W is the max power consumption of a 1.5 ton AC (Inverter based). Get 2800W panels and a 3 KW Infini Inverter.

Total cost
Estimated cost of panel (Rs 75-100) per watt depending on brand

2800W x 100 = 280,000
Infini 3KW = 120,000
Estimated Installation cost= 50,000

Total = 450,000 (might be lower or higher depending on brand of panel and type of mounting structure)

Solar panels are very reliable think 20+ years at 90% efficiency, after that efficiency drops to about 80%
Inverter has a life unfortunately. But there is no way to predict if it will work for 5 years or 10 years or more. But most people using Infini have not had any trouble with it. If you want something more reliable, you could consider a Schneider XW series inverter. Authorized distributor with full support is available in Pakistan. Warranty is 5 years. It is a beast of an inverter the 6000 Watt model can tolerate a surge of 12000 Watts for up to 90 seconds. No Chinese inverter comes close to it in terms of quality. But it is expensive.

BTW this is a bad time to go solar, a few days back govt just imposed a 33% duty on solar panels. Yes you read that right, we are in the middle of a power crisis and this is our govt's way to tackling that.

I know this post is old but i hope you know the taxes have been waivered off. We did not increase the prices anyway despite the tax imposition because we wanna try for people but until now we have found it difficult to gain the trust since electricians have installed chinese panels with self made inverters.

makes sense...its hot outside... remember the panels will perform best between 20 and 30/35 degrees. The moment you go above 38 to 40 you will definitely start loosing power. On a rough basis it is said that a single degree rise will lead to 80 watts decrease.
You will get similar results till mid september. the best performance is received from september to mid november and from Mid feb to mid April.
An inverter with PV support above the designed output is thus preferred and thus my insistence that if you have a load of 2500 to 2600 watts then the best inverter is Infini plus which has a PV support of 4500 watts.

Sir Idk what panels are you using. We provide canadian solar for this particular reason.Even german panels fail in 50 degrees because they are meant for German weather. However Canadian Solar is quite an amazing panel. Its tolerance is 85 degrees and we have tested all panels, canadian panel produces best results in winter and summer.
We must all realize that its not just the inverter that is important, its the panels that extract the energy which makes it the most important element.

I am dead tired paying ke bills - i have one 1.5 tons ac plus usual house load and with approx. 3 hours run, my bill comes close to 20,000/- per month. With regret i have only one single phase meter for the whole double story house and i have spent years trying to get another meter installed to make separate for each floor but ke says that they have 'one meter on one house' policy ????? This is now becoming too difficult for me to run the house with such huge bills?? Any ideas that might help me out are requested.

I had the same problem, I had to file a request saying that Im giving my portion for rent hence i could get a new meter. My society however did a bit a questioning before handing me the NOC so you will need to check with that.
And this post is quite old, i hope you found a solution, i work at a solar energy solutions provider and they installed the system at my home at great discount. I hope you have found a solution too. Bro you are wrong here...I have a Infi plus installed at Lahore Cant with maximum PV support of 4500 watts. the maximum current that we have received in the last month was 2850 watts. which itself is less than the full load on Infini Plus. We have 2470 watts load on infi including 2 energy savers per room + fan + LED and a 1.5 ton Inverter AC by Acson...
Remember panels are designed for optimum temperature... which is between 25 +/- 5 degrees. except for 4 months temperature is always above or below this optimum range...
In my earlier posts i have myself said so many times that chinese brands are not like SMA or Schneider which can be use on full capacity... but you should be able to use whatever reasonable load that you have put on a chinese inverter... and that is exactly where infini plus comes in

I might be wrong here but what im saying is backed by experimenting. We tested canadian solar panels and they worked best in the summer. However their output decreased too at 50 degrees in Lahore, we all know how hot it gets but then we tried watering the panels and the output increased by 12-15%. Various videos regarding this are on youtube too. You can see it for yourself. Soon I shall upload our videos too.
