iPad Cleanup and Screen Protector Installation

Hi all,

I have an iPad 2, which for the past 2 years or so, faces daily abuse from my 5 year daughter. Its had a screen protector installed since day 1, and lately I noticed it needs some thorough clean up. It gets cleaned up every week or two, but it needs a thorough clean up.

So yesterday, I got some time to do exactly that. I took some pictures, so I could share it here too.

I dont have any front pictures unfortunately, but rear pictures go here.

Like I said I dont have front side pictures, but suffice to say, it was worse than the front.

Next I sprayed the iPad screen and both of my hands with plenty of Alcohol spray. This is to avoid the screen sticking and allow easy movement before its location is satisfactory.

I could even use simple water as well for this purpose, but then I would need to remove each and every last drop from under the screen. Using Alcohol spray means I can remove maximum amount of liquid, and the remaining will evaporate.

The protection screen lined up on the screen and alcohol solution being removed from under the screen.

To remove bubbles, I took a hard plastic and covered it with the microfiber. I scrubbed the screen with this soft and toothless tool to slide the bubbles out. I could even use a credit card for this job.

As you can notice, there is still some liquid present between the screen and plastic film.

Within 24-48 hours, all the under screen liquid will have dried up, and the film will have cured to the glass screen. In cold temperatures, it is recommended to leave the device untouched for about 24 hours.

Yes I did.

Its actually recommended to spray water or alcohol on the actual screen, protection screen and your hands, when performing this procedure. This allows easy movement of the protection film, while you are trying to install it.

The alcohol solution is volatile, and will disappear in 24-48 hours from the device. The idea is to spray enough liquid to allow easy movement, and not anymore.

What you are reading/saying is correct for most of the mankind.

What I am showing you is a very professional installation technique. A skill I acquired as part of my career previously.

2 extra points for guessing the movie [emoji12].

OK jokes apart, once upon a time I used to work for the then worlds largest electronics and phone retailer group (Carphonewarehouse/BestBuy) in the UK. We were given extensive product training by what is the King of Screen Protectors, then and now, Zagg, the makers of InvisibleShield.

I may have done hundreds if not thousands of screen protector installations professionally, on iPhones, iPads, Samsungs, HTCs, even Nintendo DSs etc... You name it!

When I say so, these devices are designed to withstand a lot of damage. As long as liquid sprayed is taken care of, there is no harm done. I sprayed Alcohol, as it is easy to play with, and I have easy access to it.

If anyone can claim to professionally install the plastic screen protectors without liquid sprays without bubbles/dirt etc, I will want to see their procedure.

My installation came out without any bubbles or dirt for some reason. You can guess why.
