Is Chilas/GB/Hunza safe to travel?

Hello,
I am going on a tour with a tour service provider. We will be touring chilas, gb, hunza valley and we also have a night stay at chilas.I didn't know much about this place..but when I searched..I kinda feel reluctant to go now...if you know what I mean (That sect killing thing happend in 2013)
I am traveling with my wife..so can anyone please tell me the security condition?

We went to Astore-Gilgit-Hunza-Sost and way back from February 2-6, 2016, and the law and order situation is quiet normal no issue at all.

Thanks guys...I am feeling a bit better now...one last question...I have never been out of karachi before...do I need anything in particular to survive in such weather of hunza..i checked..it goes as low as -15C at night nowadays

Bro, my family along with 2 other families visited from Karachi till hunza in a Hiace. It was july 2015 and actually an official trip converted to leisure. Anyways. What my family experienced was that before entering Chilas, the check post stopped the van, and very nicely explained that if any of you is a Shia, then we cannot suggest you to enter chilas or it could be very dangerous. On confirming yes and telling them we belong to abcxyz company and on an official visit, the police wala called a senior officer who said sir we can provide you people security from chilas till outside of it.so, this way they crossed Chilas. It had been a continuous place for sectarian issues.

I am not Shia...but my name will make anyone believe that i am a Shia.... I don't know what to do now..

Gilgit and hunza are almost all shias and ismailis. Skardu is 99% shia muslims. Chilas is not shia/ismaili at all.

To be honest...I'm not concerned about the sects people of chilas or hunza belong to..I just wanna enjoy a peaceful tour to hunza while going through chilas and a night stay at shangrilla hotel...... but after reading posts here I am a bit curious....wheither really I should continue to go or not...

Go eyes closed to hunza, gilgit, skardu. Chilas is a problematic place usually. Take good advice before and see situation of that very time. What i told you happened with my own family.

I have spent a week in skardu. Its so safe that foreigners esp russians roam around the city freely - alot of mountain climbers come here due to mountains all around.

No issues at all. Its safe since long time.

Chilas ko bus waisay hee hawwa banaya hua hai ikka dukka waqye ki wja se.. I have many friends in Chilas and even stayed with them numerous times..

It's really quite safe. In last three or four years, I have traveled almost all parts of Gilgit-Baltistan with my family and have never faced any problem. Gilgit-Baltistan is more safer than any other part of Pakistan. Rather I should say that it is the safest place in Pakistan. We can't judge the law and order situation of Gilgit-Baltistan by a very few violent incidents of Chilas. While travelling on the KKH, I had always preferred Chilas for a night stay and it was all safe.

Last month, I traveled from Lahore to Gilgit with my wife and three kids in my alto car thrice. It was safe. The only problem was a 50-km portion of KKH starting from Dassu. There the road was in a very bad shape. At most of the places, there was no road but potholes. The rest of the KKH was good.
