Is CNG REALLY BAD FOR YOU ENGINE?

Many say CNG kills engines, I’d say we do the killing ourselves due to lack of proper care. Apparently, according to experts (NOT me), CNG serves to extend life of lubricating oil as CNG will not contaminate or dilute crankcase oil.
Fouling of plugs is eliminated and plug life is enhanced as CNG does not contain any lead. CNG enters the engine as gas while petrol comes in as spray or mist which washes down the lubricating oil from the piston ring area to raise the rate of engine depreciation. This reduces maintenance costs and engine life goes up. Now these are all scientific theories and I’ve seen several opened CNG engines that look fresh.
What you HAVE to watch out for is the extra heat generated that cause oils to break down over time. The advanced timing contributes to greater heat generation as far as I know.

Yes you are right ,excessive heat is the only problem caused by the burning of the gas and roughly gas produce twice the heat comparing the gasoline.This excessive heat demages the valves and their seating and creates problem for those engine on which we cant manually adjust the the valve clearence and you know most of new engines are coming with the mechnisumn where (VVT-I or V-TECH etc) valves are self adjusting their position to give optimum power and fuel economy.

So for these engines while using CNG we have to overhaul the head with new valves(if required) after about 60 to 80 thousnad kilimeters.

i have been using CNG since years and alhamdoLILLAH never got the problem in engine , even i m using CNG fuel in my modified cars and they perform much better and no maintenance cost as well .

Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV) is a fuel for internal combustion engines that is basically composed of Methane gas and its use offers extraordinary advantages.

NGV, unlike gasoline, does not contain lead because of its high octane rating (120-130). As combustion is more complete, the contaminating effects of the exhaust gas emissions are reduced by approximately 80%. These gases are also less corrosive, thus increasing the duration of the exhaust system. NGV keeps the spark plugs clean, prolonging their use; it does not contaminate the oil, doubling the time required for oil changes and that of the filters; it improves lubrication because the cylinders are not washed by gasoline excess, thus avoiding premature wear in the motor.

In today’s world there are constant advances in all aspects that concern security in case of automobile accidents; in gasoline vehicles the fuel is transported in thin sheet metal tanks that are very fragile when impacted and can explode. CNG is stored in steel cylinders with 6 to 8 mm thick walls; this literally makes it the most resistant component of the vehicle. The steel fuel pipes are also more resistant than the gasoline ones; even if there were to be an accidental breakage or leak, instead of the dangerous gasoline spill on the ground underneath the vehicle, the very light NGV will rise rapidly and dissipate into the air.

cng is dryer than gasolene so normally its advised for all engines and specially non efi cars (as in efi engines it starts on petrol and about crossing 800rpm,injectors stops sprinkling petrol and gas solenoids gets current and gas goes in to combusion chamber .now a days like FF cng in liana and cultus this change over is done when water circulating in the engine also through the reducer got some set temperature)to stop at night on petrol because in this way valves got some petrol on them for whole night you can say they get moisturized.

all companies like honda toyota hyundai etc void the warranty if you modify anything what they are giving for example suzuki will not accept your warranty claim if you change the general tyres they are providing with the cars and case will be same if you install some heavy audio equiptmnet and its disturb or destroys the wiring so victum is not only cng.If you think rationally they are correct how they can accept resposibilty of that trouble for which they are not responsible.

as far as usage of cng is concerned,if it is really bad for engines then why honda is supply themselves in canade?you can check through Net

yes it is the deficiency of the autmobile companies that they are just putting kits without any modification in the engine for example if cng depreciate the valves and their seats quicker than the petrol then why they dont use some other material which can work at high temperature.If high compression ratio works bettre for high octane fuel why they are not imprving the compression ratio.
