Is getting car washed from Toyota dealership safe?

I have recently bought Grande 1.8 CVT-i and dealership offered me free service on 1,000 mileage.

The issue is one of my cousin has strictly forbidden me to not to take my car to Toyota dealership for free service. He instructed me to wash my car myself, which I can.

Also, he strictly refrained me not to wash the engine of my car with water, and states that engine and its surrounding should only be cleaned with a wet cloth, not by water spray.

Will it be alright if I take my car to Toyota dealership to avail first free service on 1,000 mileage?

Can I wash the engine of my car with water spray, or shall I only clean it with wet clothing?

Your in-depth assistance would be highly appreciated.

The only issue with a dealership is that they charge extra money for everything. Nothing else.

My advice is till your warranty expires, maintain it from a dealership.

I don’t get a wash from outside at all. I use karcher jet washer at home with Ph neutral shampoo.
For engine I use engine degreaser on a cold engine and dry it up with blower. After that I clean up all dirt with damp cloth. Sometimes, i visit glow ultimate wash in Shadman Lahore. They got steam machine, and they wash engine with that. Steam is 100 times safer than water.

There are those garment/clothes vertical steamers that shops use can we use those for cars like cleaning the engine bay and dashboard etc where the dirt gets stuck in crevices and nooks and corners.
Would they be powerful enough.

I don’t think so, it won’t be adequate enough. These glow guys in Lahore owns big karcher machine for steam wash, as big as hyperstar shopping trolly. Gives awesome steam with great pressure.

For interior use good all purpose cleaner and apply good dressing afterwards like nanoskin blackawesome or multidress, carpro perl, or chemical guys silk shine.

Thank you for such inputs. My crisis is my parents recently made me move to Pakistan from Barcelona and my whereabouts is Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. This sorry town has got nothing when it comes to automobile. I can't find any butter or liquid wax, car shampoo to polish my car in the city. As a matter of fact, i can't even find a micro fiber towel/cloth to wipe or clean my car in this city. There is nothing in this shitehole. My only option is to drive 160 km to Karachi to purchase accessories.

Anyways, so according to you all it is not right to wash the engine with water, is it? I should wash the engine with damp/wet cloth?

Order things online from online stores and get them delivered home, instead of travelling to KHI

I am slightly confused with your query.

Service is one thing and getting car washed is another.

Service @ 1,000kms is your Oil Change and check up your car which may include tightening of bolts here and there!

Getting your car washed at dealership or elsewhere posses similar if not higher risks i. e. washing engine bay.

So to answer your query: Take your car to Toyota Dealership every 5,000kms for service. They might sell you some unwanted repairs / service very courteously, to make money off you - but you may refuse them.

To answer your other query, as you are using the car, you may want to keep your car clean. In that scenario, do wash your car. The decision where you want to wash it is entirely yours. I personally don't think dealership provides car washes. They do wash your car pre-delivery and they might wash your car after service or repair (but that's very unlikely).

Last, not least I always suggest to analyse the suggestion and the person it is coming from. You might get a suggestion from someone who have absolutely no idea what he is talking about and ruin your car. In the end you are responsible as you acted on the suggestion.

No matter what you do, you can't avoid swirls on your paint. The best you can do is wax it regularly for glossy shine. I made it my motto to avoid swirls but 6 months down the lane, I've given up.

You can wash the engine with certain precautions. Like cover the ecu and sensors with small plastic bags and tape them. Using blower after wash. Its a hassle but nothing cleans like that. Also after washing dont just let the car sit there. Drive around 10-15 kms atleast.

Wash the engine with petrol only, as most of Toyota dealership do, when in warranty maintain your car with dealership only

Well you can buy all accessories online now so no need to travel 160 kms to Karachi.
Either from Daraz.pk or Pakwheels shop.

Toyota Hyderabad can be used for maintenance.
Contact Shahid there, he was previously working in Toyota Southern Karachi. He will give good advice.

I think It is safe, people at service center does get basic training on handling stuff at least in karachi, you can also visit service area to inspect how are they handling other vehicles.

For me it is absolutely necessary to wash engine bay due to dust as it can eat your wiring, plastic parts due to all sort of impurities it has. Dust on road has lot of carbon, specially in areas with less rain. I also think that Corolla engine bay is well protected just cover the ECU and Fuse box as an extra precaution.
