Is it wise to buy Toyota Corolla or Honda City (2006-7) model nowadays?

I was recommended Corolla and City (2006-7) models as per my budget which is around 1.1-1.3Mn. My query is that arent these cars too old? I mean their engines , suspension and other parts must be out of their life. Also their fuel economy must also have got lower. So isnt it a bad thing to go after these cars as they will require extensive maintenance and parts replacement. Whats your take on this?

If u want a sedan then it's a good choice.U will have to spend some money on them to bring it in good condition.Otherwise if u don't want to spend some cash on it and don't want a sedan then get a new alto.

I agree with the above comments. If you are willing to spend some time and money then a 2006~2007 Corolla is OK. But if you cannot or do not want to do that then I suggest buying a new Alto.

It is definitely worth it!
On a budget even if you have to spend a bit to bring the ride in top notch condition.

In an old car anything can go wrong at any moment. Go for a newer model less driven car. It would be hard to find 06 model less driven car in it's original condition.

Thing is I want a sedan for family, with better fuel average. Alto and other new cars are not much promising with very small engine, not suitable for our area. Also I cant get my budget up, so I have to compromise on either these cars or new alto.

Thanks fo sharing, I also wanna do such thing, but family is not giving a go ahead. I have all the available resources for overhauling the vehicle, but can't get the approval from my father.

In your budget this is the better choice (going for a sedan). I would suggest presenting the argument as follows: either increase the budget or go for an older model sedan and spend a bit on it.

Would not suggest going for an engine overhaul as most mechanics don't have proper tools. Instead take someone who has good knowledge about engines and a reliable mechanic to get a new engine assembly. It is actually much cheaper for Honda City idsi to get the swap rather than overhaul.

Between Corolla and City, I would pick Corolla. City has better fuel economy though.
