I have found this FJ40 on pakwheels

..can the experts tell me if the price is right? How is this jeep in a little LONG DRIVE? wat should be the right price? I will be gr8ful to find inputs here...thx

Actually When one prepare the ride from the scratch it cost around this but unfortunately at the time of resale no one gets what he had spent on such rides . the Fj you are talking about is nicely restored but keep in mind the registration cost too as it is unregistered. and also it is equipped with very latest engine whose wiring is a bit tricky so please check all that before going for a decission.

Demand is OK for a fully restored vehicle though cannot comment on this particular car from the pics alone as such.

Its an expensive process, restoring an FJ40 to such a state. One can buy a cheap used one and incur the expenditure in bits or take a plunge and buy something that is freshly restored even if its at a slight premium. Either way, this is the overall sort of figure where one would end up sooner or later. The FJ40 was never a cheap 4x4 and it won't be for the near future it seems!

The wiring on the 1JZ however is quite standard and generally well understood by now as these engines are commonplace now in Hiace petrol conversions..... How is this jeep in a little LONG DRIVE? Well in short it will be like a hardtop FJ40 and you have to experience one to figure out if it works for you or not

you were going in right direction with the Sj410, well it depends on use but as i know what you have in mind the Sj410 will suite you more then an fj40.

in the price of 8.50 lacks then i guess it is possible to get a 70 series too

A 40 should be not more than 5 lacs unless u have restored it for some very special purpose like rallying or hardcore offroading. As far as engine is concerned, no matter what ever u put in it, it will remain a rough bumpy 40. So if it suits yr purpose u can go for it but than would not be able to sell it in weeks or even in months on this price.

Although I am not talking in particular about this vehicle, I find it amazing that people who never owned or restored FJ40’s are giving their opionion and find it absurd price. I know atleast 5 or 6 inviduals, (well known on this 4x4 forum) included myself who have spent MORE than 9 lacs on FJ40’s. Like Suhaib bhai mentioned, FJ40 were never cheap restore. The fun starts the moment you pick up the khokha from army auctioneers.

I agree completely with the remarks of Suhaib and Siddique.

The FJ40 will NEVER be a cheap vehicle to either restore, or run. It will NOT be comfortable. It will NOT be full of aesthetic design cues. What it WILL be, though...is iconic, incredibly reliable, very hardy, and an absolute pleasure to keep.

And then, the combinations and permutations are ENDLESS. Wheels, tyres, interior, exterior styling, additional exterior embellishments, performance upgrades, suspension upgrades, engine upgrades, gearing upgrades, diff locks, brakes...the list just goes on and on and on. All of these upgrades cost money. A great deal of it.

So, with all due respect to the opinion of friends and brothers who have placed a ballpark figure of 4-5 Lakhs on "any FJ40 not being worth more"...I would respectfully disagree. The ONLY ballpark figure that can be attributed to a Series 40 TLC is the price of the khokha. After that, you pay for the goodies on the truck, AND the mehnat of the one who's prepared the vehicle. Agar uss mehnat ke paise dena aap ko achha nahin lagta...tau bhai, khud hee apni FJ tayyar kara lein! Tussi panj lakh rupaiy wich changi gaddi bana lo.

If u go out restoring one yourself, ur atleast end up spending atleast 800k to restore it into a decent and reliable vehicle.

I have recently restored a 1983 FJ40 to a completely stock position in six months and it cost me 900 KPKR. And believe me the effort and pain put in to the restoration is worth millions. This one looks like an "LX Version" and I think the price is not bad. I can not comment on the engine and the conversion process. Can only be commented once seen and driven. There are more important things in conversion then mileage. Power to weight ratio is of paramount importance. I would say, Go for it!

@OP you have no idea how much money & TIME is absorbed by the restoration process, while pain to beg around the labour class is priceless. 400,000 is very reasonable for the FJ posted in ad

I've seen 2 made and sold for 1.4 & 1.25 million respectively. So go with your budget & not what the range is. There is no range for them, it all depends on the restoration.
