Is there any custom duty & Sales tax on Nissan Leaf all electric car?

I am very curious that is there any custom duty & Sales tax on Nissan Leaf all electric car if we import it in Pakistan . According to new custom tariff hybrids or electric cars under 1200 cc are exempt from duty and sales tax . NISSAN Leaf is all electric call means it doesn't have engine it's 0cc so we don't have to pay any custom duty and sales tax if we import it?

This is really a confusing matter. There is a government SRO 499(1)/2013 about ‘Hybrid Electric Vehicle’ (HEV) like Prius, Aqua etc. but it doesn’t mention anything about ‘Electric Vehicle’ (EV) like Tesla, Nissan Leaf etc.

There was the case of a person importing a Tesla electric vehicle under gift scheme last year and ended paying up Customs Duty 50%, Sales Tax 17%, Withholding Tax 9%.

According to my knowledge there is no duty on electric vehicle
in the most of country but in Pakistan very difficult to answer in SRO
has mention fully electric car has no duty
but in custom office they don't reply in good way

How can we find out for sure because I am very keen on importing Nissan Leaf but don’t want to end up being a victim

Saw a Nissan Leaf listed for sale on Pakwheels some time ago. Also someone imported Shifeng D101 (chinese electric cars) last year.

There is no way the local assemblers are gonna let electric cars go untaxed. It will completely kill their business. Theyll somehow get the government to tax them just like theyre after used imports now.

But I am curious to see how the government will go about taxing electric cars the way they tax based on engine capacity. Like how they have different categories based on cc. I wonder if tax percentage will be same on all electric cars or theyll come up with some alternative.

I am very much interested to import Nissan Leaf which I have purchased in Japan but there is no information about custom and duties even custom office don’t have information I contacted different forums but still no information. If anybody help to sort the problem and where is the government policy of electric vehicles. I think they only allow present assemblers to import or built no for general public. Pakwheels should write a blog on this.

expats can import a used car the subject has been discussed hundreds of times in past 3 years.
electric vehicle import policy for customs duty & taxes is applied the same way as any ICE or Hybrid vehicle.

you can use search glass option on top right, please search for "vehicle import" & "EV Policy"

import as in commercial import only vehicle assembly license holder can import certain number NEW CBU units only.
