Yes that oil can last you 10K and longer I have seen those last until 15k without loosing their viscosity. But there is a problem with oil being changed after a long time. You see oil absorbs moisture overtime for periods of 3months or longer and moisture breaks down oil and can damage engine internals. Whenever you change oil make sure you note the date to and change it which ever occurs 1st.
But and this is a big BUT, synthetic oil used in new engines has caused some contrversies. It is best recommended to use mineral oil in the 1st 10k kms and synth. later. This will alow the engine to break in properly and last longer. synth. oil is so lubricating that it is said that it does not allow the engine internals to break in properly cauzing engine damage. I have witnessed this myself in few cars Audi and VW after a certain mileage the engines start to consume oil before the next oil change you have to add as much as a litre of oil synth. When we asked the dealer they said it is normal and all cars do that, I said not the japanese. I got no reply from him again. According to my own findings proper engine breakin is neccassary for the prolong useage of the car. Proper breakin also makes a difference in the cars performance. Ever seen the same cars race and one of them winning the other time after time, well other then the driver the car has been properly maintained. Driving slow is not considered proper maintaining, as carbon build up is caused, lol!
