The first one week was spent trying to turn the motor. I was not convinced that the motor had totally siezed.... and I was right. The culprit turned out to be the broken primary drive chain and jammed clutch box. I was lucky to recover some friction disks left over from a G-80 which I had once owned. The engine started to turn but the spark was feeble than a chicken's f*art. Close inspection of the Lucas magneto revealed heavy deposits of carbon around the armatur and the carbon contact bush was badly worn out. I rushed to a nearby auto parts store and gathered all kinds of carbon bushes and springs I could get my hands on (Suzuki Pick Up, FX, Alto, Datsun 120Y) you name it. The results were amazing, the spark plug instantly caught fire on the first spin. But the struggle didnt end here, the Amal carb was oozing fuel from just about everywhere, the jetting was extremely poor, the mixture screw was replaced by a bolt, in summary the carby needed serious refurbishing. With slight adjustments, a japanese carburator was installed. A few more kicks and the thumper fired.... Bravo!
