JDM 660 Maintenance

a general issue noticed over forum is serious confusion about engine oil specs for JDM 660 engine vehicles.

for every brand & body variant of JDM 660 engine ( KEI car )

0W-20 / 5W-30 is best choice. Brand shall be purchased only from verified source.

95% of JDM 660 vehicles are equipped with CVT. The trans-axle code can be verified from vehicle ID pasted over either side pillars of vehicle (most commonly). Only OEM recommended (or fluid meeting the specs) transmission fluid be used for changes.

JDM vehicles have serious disadvantage of ZERO support for NEW engine suspension & transmission parts. So the only source for such parts requirements are scrap yards.

Scrap parts (esp consumables) are already at the end of their useful service life - They work just fine doesn't mean they will continue to work fine for long. This is why people who import their own jdm vehicles last a good 5-7 years, once this time has passed everything starts to falls apart.

ZERO Reliability - Anything can go bad at any time. Biggest deal breaker.
ABSOLUTE lack of preventive maintenance - In my experience with pkdm, parts are changed well before they go bad - this is how we can make them ultra reliable and fuel efficient, don't need to sell these cars so carbon foot print is lower in the long run.

Surprisingly, some parts in 660 are compatible/interchangeable among different brands.

Anyways, why don't existing importers import parts of these cars as they are rapidly penetrating in Pakistan exponentially day by day.

Officially only Suzuki got permission to assemble (in France) & export car outside Japan.
(to South Africa since 80's & to Pakistan in 2019 only)

MITI regulations does not allow 660 class NEW vehicle exports. Therefore no manufacturer plan parts inventory for export line up.

Mazda = Suzuki = Daihatsu = Honda - All carry almost identical DNA for BOXY / COUPE / HATCH so mechanical parts from scrap yards are interchangeable.

Sorry but despite their finish and quality, these are Janazas. At least the local ones have brand new support in the form of parts. Kabuli is "teen pattay blind hand", chal gaya to chand tak naa chalay to shaam tak!

a friend of mine imported a nissan dayz, he's a jdm fanboy, always negative statements about pkdms as expected
and later on texted me, oil filter air filter konsa lgay ga isko, kahan se milay ga
and at end, came to know that genuine dayz filters are not available in pak
meanwhile me laughing like, le le mazay abb jdm k, mene kaha tha import kr jdm
literally 0 in aftersales dept
found compatible vic filter on net
that too wasn't available in pak
so he bought another vic filter with same thread and vic air filter
jdms are nothing more than disposable cars in pak, buy, use it. sell the scrap at end

Toyota Aqua 2017 model registered 2019 meter is 87000 kms.

after frequent CEL lights and scanning by the workshop greenline autos in sharfabad karachi the Big metal box battery aka HV battery need to be changed. they have quoted a price in exchange with old battery box Rs. 110,000 from a 2019 model japan half cut accident vehicle. They provide warranty for 30 days for any CEL / high fuel consumption.

the vehicle belong to my aunty a daily usage car between her job home & routine errands. sawal yeah hai k keya battery ki price reasonable hai aur keya replace karnay par problem khatam ho jai hi.

Boss price seems reasonable but please do not be very confident about the battery...

But these are also used. They don't have enough life left.

instead of wasting 110,000 over a junkyard battery best option is sell of the vehicle right away and buy a local made / assembled in Pakistan vehicle. 2017 vehicle is already 5 years old and by OEM principle the battery is at End of Life.

Installing an scrapyard item is high risk., though there is no other option.

but capsat we dont have any hybrid local manufactured cars and most of them are fuel guzzlers.

i know you dont appreciate jdm cars but some of them are good for milage as per petrol prices are hiking. what you say

Look for hybrid nation on Facebook they quote battery for 85k and 3 years warranty.

Visit Times Autos On Alamgir Near United Kind And Get 2nd opinion from them . I guess its not same workshop as you mention

sometimes its just corrosion on terminals and other things causing it......87k is not genuine mileage if issue is this..its meter reversed car sold to them...anyways get 2nd opinion ... i highly doubt thats the case unless its too old...

if thats the issue then my suggestion is instead of spending this on car if this is issue....better sell it and buy something better bcz there's absolutely no guarantee it wont reappear.....

Dear @capsat i recently bought Alto AGS 2019 50000KM done should i change oil grade to 0w-20 previously owner was using PSO Carient 5w-30 is it safe to switch ?
