I tend to disagree, as these have got nothing to do with the safety factor. In fact, in case there are 2 similar cars, one with alloy rims, and one with steel rims, and they hit a pot hole very badly, then steel rim will bend (and may be repairable later), however, being Brittle, Alloy Rim can break, and then it will be damaged beyond repair.
Unless / until, you have sufficient funds, and can buy expensive, imported Rims from some reputed brands, like LENSO; which are much much better than the stock steel rims in all aspects, then its fine, otherwise, if opting for Chinese or Taiwanese rims (with questionable build quality, heavy weights, and cheap prices, etc.), then no benefits IMO.
