Poor city owner must be devastated. I guess that's what the car is supposed to do in an accident. It crumples up and absorbs the force of the impact. I'm sure the city owner would rather have his car crumpled up than see any of it's passengers with internal injuries.

The crumple zone does not comprises of the passenger cabin. If you look carefully, evidence points out lack of a rear safety beam behind the rear bumper of city which is a major safety hazard. And no crumpling happened in this case on city. Anyone who was sitting in the rear seats of City must have been injured.

The only car which is 'safe' in all these pics is the corolla where the engine compartment absorbed all the force of the crash. Look at the pillars of corolla and then the pillars of the city

exactly, in case the car gets hit from behind, the rare pillars absorb all the impact and transfer this towards the roof. My cousins Vti oriel took a severe hit from behind on the islamabad highway and same thing happened with his car, the pillars got bent and guess what it was also hit by a ROLA

The rear pillars are not supposed to absorb the impact. In case of a rear impact, it is the trunk which is supposed to absorb the impact and rear impact safety bar is supposed to keep the occupants inside the cabin safe by ensuring the car behind does not spears its way into the cabin. Sadly this bar does not seems to be present in the city

what about these screeches, i doubt these are of corolla, if these are of city then city must apply hard breaks for saving some thing and corolla banged from behind due to not keeping safe distance.

what i can guess is ...city was stationary...as these tyre marks are more likely to be of rear wheels with hand brake pulled up....i believe tht city was parked alogside the road...as you can see the yellow strip and foot path....corolla was at high speed and trying to escape / avoid a red signal or something....there wud have been a slow moving vehicle in front of him so he tried to overtake it from left side....but city got into his course of collision...unfotunately.....thats why he didnt even got chance to brake hard....he hit city's behind with full thrust....anyways...its just a guess

ya Allah reham...... this one is a bad one.... very very very bad for the City owner in fact. Well, sometimes i wonder why Corollas and Quingquis (chingchis) are always in hurry.... 90% of them seems to have no road sense .. :((no offence to Corolla owners)

Umm...theres a difference between CRUMPLING and BUCKLING...the honda city's entire body work BUCKLED from the impact..which is considered POOR in a crash...the CRUMPLE zones are at the front and rear and sides of the car...not in the passenger cabin...DOH.

You can see the honda city's doors and windows totally buckled..whereas the toyota corolla's front has crumpled and there's no damage to its cabin where the occupants would be sitting.

offcourse it will but it is a secondary support system.

As far as the rear safety beam is concerned, a couple of months back someone rear ended my Altis (only 3/4 months old at that point). It was a loud bang and I was furious. When I got out I saw the vitz had radiator leage and severe bonnet and bumper damage while the only damage on my car was the rear bumper and nothing else. WHen I took the car to Toyota for repairs, thats when I saw the beam and realized its usefulness Whats more the beam is also supported by pieces of foam like material for cushioning!!

im amazed to see that some people are assuming that these two cars were racing where as the poster has clearly said that the city was parked!
Mass difference, velocity, the fact that 2 to 3 cars were parked infront of the city and that the city was sandwiched hard should be kept in mind before making facts of our own such as the absense of rear beam etc etc. This accident though does show that the city is weaker than a corolla!

Its a bad accident, feel sorry for the city owner.

Do you have any pics of evidence suggesting there is infact a rear beam in the city? Also no one made any claims. All I said was that it seems like there is no rear beam in the city. Any sane person would come to same conclusion after examining the pictures.
