Karachi to Lahore by road dec 2020

Asalam u likum, we are 4 family with kids. Planning to drive on 20 dec 2020 from karachi to lahore. We plan to leave karachi in afternoon by 1.00pm and reach sukkur by 8pm. Kindly sugguest good hotels near aukkur multan motorway rohri juction which is the entry point. As we will stay in sukkur this night. Cannot drive at night.
OR
Should we leave 4am in the morning reach pano aquil by 11am and then take a break for breakfast and drive to sukkur multan mototway and take a night stay at multan???

if you want to stay then better to use N5 instead of M5 (due to fatal accident on daily basis). you should stay at sadiqabad or bhwalpur via N5 . and leave Karachi at least at 6 to 7 am morning

Karachi to Lahore via newly made motorways is around 15 hours of drive. I would say leave Karachi by 3AM early morning and you will hopefully be nearing Lahore by 6PM on a single day, although hectic drive but with a rest of 20 mins after every 1.5 hours its pretty much doable.

Second option in my opinion is to stay either at Pano Aqil Cantonment or at Rahim Yar Khan. My idea is to leave Sindh province in a single day instead of stretching it to two days.

I think you will be travelling in Dec-2019. Your plan looks good, what is your budget for hotel room? The best option is hotel one sukkur but room rate is Rs.8000~9000. You can also search on booking.com and will find room as per you requirement.

You can stay at Palm Valey hotel on N-5 near Sukkur. I have stayed there a couple of times. It is convenient and the room charges are reasonable. Below is link on google maps

My my. Looks we are all travelling on same date(s). I will In Sha Allah be leaving for Lahore on 20th December. This is the first time I wont go nonstop to Lahore (last time reached Lahore in 15 hours flat in my Civic 9th Generation). This time it will be a real road trip In Sha Allah. Plan to stay at Bahawalpur and visit lal sohanra national park, Abbasi era palaces, UCH Sharif (last visited in Feb 2015. Had fresh Damra at punjnad and visited all shrines- what a trip) and Multan. Hazri at the Mazars while wife Roger's my pay at Hussainaqai (embroidered clothes). Straight to Nathiagali. @tintin1, when will you be back at Lahore? I will be there around 31st December In Sha Allah...

Why do you want to stay at Multan which is only about 3.5 hours dirve?

Lahore to Karachi OR Karachi to Lahore is 12-13 hours drive. Add 2 stops of 1 hour each, and 2 of half hour each to it, and the total travelling time is 15-16 hours. However, I'm not sure how's the fog condition on your scheduled time of the year. Last year, I drove to Lahore during the same time frame (last week December) and although I traveled all the way on N-5, I heard Motorway was closed for traffic because of fog.
If you manage to leave Lahore around 5AM you can easily reach Multan by 8:30, and Sukkur by 12:00pm. However, if fog will be an issue (and it may I guess) then you have to leave Lahore around 11AM and in that case you will reach Sukkur around 6PM. From Sukkur to Karachi is 7 to 7:30 hours, which is easily doable but you're a better judge of your energy and vehicle during night time driving. By the way, night drive on N-5 is much easier compared to day time when there're all sorts of traffic and pedestrians near every big or small town.

In a nutshell, scenario 1 if fog is not an issue, you can easily travel straight to Karachi in one go. Scenario 2 if fog is an issue, then stay overnight at Sukkur.

As for M-5 dangerous for driving, if you're within speed limits, mentally prepared for any stray animal on the road, whereby the rule of thumb is NOT TO SWERVE your vehicle but apply breaks judiciously and HIT IT instead of risking the car to over turn, I think it is only as dangerous as any other highway in Pakistan.

I think you have to increase your stay here, as food generally is good. From experience I can tell that my Lahori office colleagues like to eat BBQ such as Waheed (Burns Road), Nihari at either Javed or Idrees, not to forget Lamb Roast at Kauser (Light House), and highway dhaabas.

You may also like Fish at Kaemari, there's a whole street dedicated to it, my favorite is BBQ instead of fried at Rashid.

Bro Just to update, I just reached back Karachi Yesterday, took Multan - Sukkur Motorway both sides... My observations/ recommendations are as below.

At the moment avoid using Multan - Sukkur Motorway at night time or You need to be extra careful due to animals road crossing..... I covered that patch while going Karachi to Lahore at night i.e. 10 p.m to 5 a.m. Everything was good except this thing as I saw around 50-60 dead animals so I restrict myself to observe speed limit upto 100 with extra care.......

Secondly as mentioned earlier by other members fuel in not available, so for fuel you need to take exit and then continue..... As far as I know Multan and Rajana Interchanges have nearest available fuel stations.....
Total distance is around 750 KM +- from Sukkur to Lahore

It took around 6.5 Hours to cover Lahore - Sukkur motorway without break mostly using curise speed @ 125.....

No rest area/fuel pump available, so with respect to Kids all arrangements needs to done before like refreshments / water / rest room etc.....

On my way back I hit motorway in morning time, excellent travelling as due to visibility animals road crossing factor has been minimized. Love to see views, very comfortable drive as compared to N5..... Really enjoyed Day time driving......

Alhamdulliah, it's all safe 24 hrs so don't need to worry about this factor.......

As I am frequent traveler and almost took this route every month, so I will strongly recommend Lahore - Sukkur Motor way is best choice keeping in mind above factors which will be resolved in near future.....

And Yes, now total travel time is about 12-13 hours including short stay for refreshments.......
