Karachi to Lahore by road with family - first time

Hi Guys,

Will be travelling to Lahore by road in the last week of December. I have my wife with two daughters accompanying me. My car is Honda Civic 2017, done 30K km.

Need advice on route, road conditions, and which places to stop with family. From other threads it seems its a good idea for overnight stop in Sadiqabad or RYK.

I have never been to Lahore from Karachi by road. But I frequently go to Lahore from Bahawalpur.
From Bahawalpur I can tell u. Lodhran is 15km from Bahawalpur, use Lodhran-Khanewal Expressway E5 which is 92km, then use GT road from Khanewal onwards. Bahawalpur to Lahore travel time is almost 6 hours.

Why car? Any special reason? Why not train (Green Line)?

Yes, Greenline is a good alternative. It starts from Karachi Cantt station at 10pm and reaches Lahore at 2:30pm next day. Business Class cabins are new, air-conditioned, have TV and power sockets.

Leave Karachi by 6AM and by 12PM you would have crossed Sukkur. And plus 8 hours uptill Bahalwapur looking at current traffic conditions. So totalling to around 14 hours of travel till Bahalwapur. Overnight stay at Bahawalpur. Next day head for Lahore via Khanewal Expressway total time is 6-8 hrs depending on traffic conditions.

So that I can drive around lahore and further to Islamabad with family. I'll be staying for almost two weeks.

Beware of fog season, plus sugar cane farmers are going on strike. That can cause huge traffic jams. Fog will be more dense after sukkur region in night and early morning times.
Rest road condition are OKish. Best places to stay with family for food is McDonalds, one will be at Pano Aqil, Other will be at Sahiwal.
Midway Hotels is a nice place to stay at Sadiqabad.

Multan road (Lahore) was blocked due to farmers strike today. Do keep these factors in mind too.

wow, you reminds me of my road trip from KHI to Muree - via RYK - FSD - LHR - ISL in December 2015 end with family of friend in his civic 2014. we didnt faced FOG that time, but seen lots of sugar cane trolleys around factories, long long que hence blocking of road.

Start your journey in morning, Do not stop anywhere after haiderabad, Recite ayatul kursi and drood sharif while crossing ghotki and dehrki area and maintain high speed even on bumpy road and do not stop any where until you reach sadiqabad. Travel is safe in punjab on national highway so onwards your journey would be fine.

i will also travel by road with family on 21st december. to avoid fog in punjab, i opt to start raod trip at 10pm night to reach sukkur till early morning and using day light in punjab.

Try to leave Karachi as early as possible in morning. Total drive time from khi to Sadiqabad/Rahimyar Khan is almost 11 hour. try to reach Sadiqabad/Rahimyar khan before 5 pm in evening to avoid any fog. road condition and safety situation is OK. Next day plan to leave Rahim yar khan at around 8 am to reach Lahore in day light. driving in Punjab is a pleasant experience unless you encounter any traffic jam due to sugarcane trolleys in southern Punjab areas.
