Karachi to Naran - Hunza - Khunjerab pass

Hi All,

I am planning a trip from Karachi to Khunjerab pass via naran. We will be travelling through train from Karachi to Islamabad. Then from 2nd July our adventure will start from Abbotabad and upwards for which I need experts advise.

We are a family of 7 adults and 3 small kids. We will be hiring APV from Abbotabad or nearby with driver. Since this is once in a lifetime event for us therefore need guidance from experts on following points:

1- Will APV be able to reach Khunjerab pass and what would be approx per day rent. Are there any other car options keeping in view no. of passengers.
2- How much fuel will be used in the whole trip.
3- Is Babusar top open if we go via Naran.
4- Which are the good reasonable hotels to stay along the route mentioned below. Should I book in advance. I am not looking for expensive hotels, just reasonable enough for a family stay:

Day 1- Leave Abbotabad early morning and reach Shogran. Night stay there.
Day 2- Leave early morning visit Siri Paye and then head towards Naran. Night stay in naran.
Day 3- Visit Saif al malook or lalazar. Back to Naran.
Day 4- Leave Naran and reach Gilgit. Night stay in Gilgit ( I am not sure if we should stay in gilgit or continue till Hunza. Depending upon how long will it take to reach hunza and there will be family with me.
Day 5- Explore Hunza.
Day 6- Visit nearby plances in Hunza. Pls advise what would be good.
Day 7- Reach Khunjerab Pass- China border and back to Hunza.
Day 8 - Leave hunza early morning and head back to Abbotabad through KKH route. I think we will be able to reach by 9-10 if we leave early.

I know this is a peak season but we do not have any other time for visit therefore we intend to maximize with what ever time we have now.

Hello bro,

I will strongly recommend to eexclude Khunjarab from your plan, which is not worthy place to visit and wasting if your time and money as well.

Better to Include Naltar, Devsai or Fairymeadows which will be your life ttime achievement.

Thanks for your helpful feedback.

I would have loved to visit Fairy meadows but with family and small kids I think the trekking would be a bit too much.

How much time would it take for Naltar and Devsai from Gilgit. Will it take full day in Naltar. Are both places reachable on APV or jeep.

On a second thought I am now thinking to exclude saif al malook and lalazar from naran. Instead of it I will extend a day or two for Gilgit / Hunza.

Masood bhain Naltar is 2 hrs drive from Gilgit and for deosai you either go from Skardu Side or from astore side. Skardu is 7-8 hrs drive from gilgit and Deosai a further 3 hrs drive from skardu. Deosai and Naltar both will require jeep.

@nagar1 - Excellent details and will be great help to travelers.. i also need an advice about choosing places to visit around mid July. i will have a week time from Islamabad and just thinking to either i should plan Gilgit, Hunza & Khunjrab side or should plan for either Astor or Skardu? i do not want rush and want to spend good enough time so thinking to pick just best places to spend my days.. i will be with family and will be on my own car. if you can help me deciding best places conside…

Can you pls also suggest reasonable hotels to stay in Gilgit & Hunza. I want to book hotels in advance to save time and avoid hassle later on.

You can visit to Naltar from gilgit to gilgit single day visit.

Same, you can go to mid point of devsai from Astore to Astore in a single dat.

Both above mmentioned options are doable with family without any trekking.

i agree with you b/c no extra ordinary scene to view but last month i visited khunjrab pass and enjoy SNOW FALL first time in my life. so this is too much entertainment for me and my family.
