Kenwood HU Protect Error - Help Pls

Dear Audio Gurus

I have Kenwood KDC-U346 installed in my Mehran. but it is not giving "Protect" error on display when I power it on. I searched internet and few threads mentioned that there might be some sort of 'short' in speaker out put wires etc and that its internal protection system is activated to protect it from further damage. I have checked it and took head unit to mechanic also. He unplugged unit and checked it by attaching with his own speakers, but same error. He said that this model has this fault and cannot be repaired. I have two questions to ask now:

1. Is my head unit out of order now and can't be repaired? What might be the solution?
2. I have Kenwood Max Air Drive KSC-SW2000 Tune Up Sub Woofer. If my Kenwood Head unit get repaired, can I attach this Max Air with that?

I faced the same error a few weeks ago. What I did was to unplug all the speaker wires going in to the headunit and then try each speaker one by one (trial and error method), when the protect mode came on upon applying that particular wire, the area was checked if the wire was touching any metal/ground/body. So try doing that for all the speakers individually. You can also bypass the protect mode by pressing the 'reset' button on the HU but again its temporary if the problem is still there.

If Kenwood Max Air Drive KSC-SW2000 has a built-in amplifier, which I think it has, then it can be surely attached to your vehicle with any unit.

Thanks brother, mechanic checked it with his own speakers, may be either he was not that good to understand, I will visit another one, yes Kenwood Air has built in amp.

I also have a kenwood head unit in my car. I have got Protect error many time after getting my car washed....

Although my head unit is not the one u mentioned, its some other model.

Solution

The solution i found is that there is a very tiny button (Reset i think) at the right bottom corner of the head unit like the one found on WIFI router to reset it which can be pressed using a Pin. I pressed it using a common pin and the error was solved !

Now every time i get the protect error i press the button . Hope u also have one on ur head unit

as i said thats a temporary fix. That wont do the job well. Get it properly diagnosed and solved
