HI all..
i wana know how to adjust tappets of khyber car..
cuz i use to go to mechanic 4 tappets adjustment n all i see is its tht much difficult of the tasks...
so can any body explain how much gap v need to adjust and all related stuff .i got tappets adjusted 2 days back but tappets awaz krna strt ho gaey hain pehly they were soundless.
so i wana know how to adjust them...n whr cn i get tht gap instrument with whch mechnics measure the gap

You will need the proper tools and the proper specifications.

Tools needed: Set of correct hand tools and a good feeler gauge.

Specification: You will need to find out the exact tolerances for both the exhaust and intake sides, both when the engine is hot and cold.

Only then you can do a proper job of adjustment. Anything less than this foundation will be hit and miss like before.

The recommended gap (as i learned from senior members) is

Inlet: 0.06 - 0.08" (upper row)
outlet: 0.08 - 0.10" (lower row)

These are hot engine settings. Engine should be hot while you are adjusting the tappet.

The tool is called filler gauge, available at any auto hardware shop.

Tools required: 10mm socket, 12mm ring, screw driver, filler gauge.

Note: if your car's starting and pick is ok, then no need to fiddle with the setting. Khyber tappet does make a little metal on metal sound. Soundless means your tappets were too tight and may cause missing/low pick/ longer self etc

there is no doubt that if you want to do something right do it your self, but learn first (as you are)

smijaz: Good relevant information, thank you. I hope the OP finds it useful.

The worst outcome of too tight clearances, in addition to what has been posted, is that the exhaust (and sometime the intake too) valve and seat can burn out causing much bigger problems. Remember that that the valve can transfer heat to the coolant in the head only during that portion of the combustion cycle when it is fully seated and too tight adjustment will prevent that. Too loose an adjustment will cause reduced efficiency of breathing, causing its own but less severe problems.

can u plz ell me wats inlets and outlets???
3 tappets are on one side n 3 on other so do inlet means uooer 3,n outlet means lower 3??
ill get instruments once i knw how to play the game...
n mechanics get front tyre lifted up with jack and put car in 4th gear n sometimes in 2nd gear n then rotate the tyre n then adjust tappets time to time..
wats tht all about?

I think that you are on the right track, but please read up on a few basic things first such as: the four-stroke combustion cycle, top-dead center, basic layout of your particular engine, using a feeler gauge etc. and then you will be in a much better position to understand what it is that you want to do.
