i was thinking whether i should reply to this thread or not but then i decided to post my opinion. Both the cars are economical low-budget 1000cc hatchbacks and are 2 different models of the same car.. both have their +ve & -ve points so its not easy to declare which one is better. Since we had a 1994 Khyber till 1998 & i still own a 2000 Cultus, i can tell as per my experiences that both the cars have edge over the other in various aspects.
Khyber was no doubt more nimble perhaps because of its light weight. Cultus being a bit heavier isn't that 'fast'.. but i believe speed isn't the only parameter to judge the betterment of a vehicle. Practicality & reliability factor is equally important.
Other than speed if u consider the interior, both the cars offers good roomy interior (comparing other 1000cc hatchbacks) however the Cultus interior is better (since its the same as in Margalla Plus) and more modern as compared to Khyber.. the levers & switches in Cultus operates quite well as opposed to the button system in Khyber which goes out of order very soon.
Built quality of Khyber was way better than Cultus.
I find the handling & braking of Khyber to be superior than a Cultus.
Comfort wise both are pretty much the same.. both offer a good driving position & good leg room for the rear passengers.
Khyber came without an adjustable headrest. Cultus have it!
Khyber came without proper retract side mirrors, Cultus does have those.
Khyber wasn't available in any metallic color (metallic colors were offered only in the limited edition when it was about to be discontinued) The paint job use to fade up too quickly. Cultus was and is available in a vast variety of colors (including metallic) and the paint job is better too.
If Cultus is noisy, Khyber wasn't quite either. both produce some strange tappet noise..
Maintenance of Khyber was cheaper and Cultus parts are expensive when compared to Khyber but still cheaper than other competitors.
Khyber wasn't available with matching bumpers, whereas Cultus is.
Khyber was available in only 1 trim, however there is a variety in Cultus like VX, VXR, VXL.
Khyber was priced well but Cultus is ridiculously overpriced.
Look wise both the cars are outdated today but Khyber is more primitive looking than a Cultus.
There was no power package in Khyber but Cultus have that in VXL.
Khyber came without alloys but Cultus offers it with VXL.
Cultus is equipped with electronic choke system while i doubt khyber had it.
Cultus is equipped with electronic fuel pump while Khyber wasn't.
In my opinion both the cars are good and served well in their respective times.. Both have edge over the other in various areas & its not easy to determine which one is better.
