Well first it comes as import in Australia and not locally produced and markup are everywhere and its reported and documented.
When Supra launched in US last year there was a wait even the newly released ford bronco has wait time over 1 year in US [ made in USA as an additional info] and even if dealer sell it on premiums .. the premiums are reported on the sales sheet as markup and it is taxed unlike Pakistan.
My coworker bought a Type R when it was launched, it is an import and he drove to Virginia to buy it, paid $6000 above sticker price of 35000 something BUT those 6000 show up on the sales sheet. The final price is know to bank if you are getting loan. It is known to the insurance company. Its not under the table money and there is a sticker posted next the MSRP window sticker on the vehicle with the amount of MARKUP and everyone knows it publicly. It's not hidden number.
Keep in mind there are dealers who sells vehicles even below the MSRP. Its suggested retail price. Dealer can sell it over or under the the sticker price, and that why every dealer sells it at different price. I bought my Tiguan $2500 less than another dealer quoted price. obviously, its all depends on your shopping experience and the way you handle the dealer. No one buys at MSRP. There is target's by car companies to dealers on monthly basis , so there is tough competition among dealers as well keeping in mind there are multiple dealers with a city.
The end of the story is, premiums becomes questionable when it's not Reported. Any dealer in Pakistan can ask for premium because of demand supply issue BUT than they must also report that premium on their revenues.
